2. Setup Guide
2.1 Unpacking and Placement
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure you have the Roomba Plus 405 Combo robot, the AutoWash Dock, and any included accessories.

Figure 2.1: The Roomba robot and its AutoWash dock, ready for setup.
Place the AutoWash Dock on a hard, level surface against a wall, ensuring there is at least 1.5 feet (0.5 meters) of clear space on either side and 4 feet (1.2 meters) in front of the dock. This allows the robot to easily navigate to and from the dock.
2.2 Powering On and Charging
- Connect the power cord to the AutoWash Dock and plug it into a wall outlet.
- Place the Roomba robot onto the charging contacts of the AutoWash Dock. Ensure the robot is properly aligned and the charging indicator lights illuminate.
- Allow the robot to fully charge before its first use. This may take several hours.
2.3 App Installation and Connection
For full functionality and smart features, download the iRobot Home App on your smartphone or tablet.
- Search for "iRobot Home" in your device's app store (App Store for iOS, Google Play Store for Android).
- Install the app and follow the on-screen instructions to create an account or log in.
- The app will guide you through connecting your Roomba Plus 405 to your home Wi-Fi network and pairing it with your device.

3. Operating Your Roomba Plus 405
3.1 Initial Mapping Run
Before its first cleaning, the robot will perform a mapping run to learn your home's layout. This helps optimize future cleaning paths.

Figure 3.1: ClearView LiDAR technology enables the robot to quickly map your home for efficient navigation.
Ensure all doors are open and clear any large obstacles during the mapping run. The robot does not clean during this process.
3.2 Starting a Cleaning Cycle
You can initiate a cleaning cycle in several ways:
- Using the Roomba Home App: Tap the "Clean" button in the app. You can also set custom cleaning routines, select specific rooms, or define "Clean Zones" and "Keep Out Zones."
- Using Voice Assistant: If connected to a compatible voice assistant (Alexa, Siri, Google Assistant), simply say commands like "Alexa, tell Roomba to clean."
- Using Robot Buttons: Press the CLEAN button on the robot itself to start a general cleaning cycle.

3.3 Cleaning Modes
The Roomba Plus 405 offers flexible cleaning modes:
- Vacuum Only: For dry debris on all floor types.
- Mop Only: For wet cleaning hard floors.
- Combo Clean: Vacuums and mops simultaneously.
- Vacuum First, Then Mop: Completes a full vacuuming pass before starting the mopping cycle.

4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your Roomba Plus 405.
4.1 AutoWash Dock Maintenance
The AutoWash Dock is designed for minimal manual intervention, handling dirt disposal and mop pad care automatically.

Figure 4.1: The AutoWash Dock's comprehensive features for automated maintenance.
- Self-Emptying: The dock automatically empties the robot's dust bin into a sealed bag, holding up to 75 days of debris. Replace the bag when full, as indicated by the app.
- Pad Washing & Drying: The dock continuously rinses mop pads during cleaning and washes and dries them after the cleaning cycle is complete.
- Self-Cleaning Cycle: The dock performs a self-cleaning cycle to prevent debris buildup. Periodically check the dock's water tanks and clean as needed.

Figure 4.2: The dynamic dock ensures hands-free cleaning by managing bin emptying, pad washing, and drying.

Figure 4.3: The dock ensures mop pads stay fresh through continuous washing and drying.
4.2 Robot Component Cleaning
Periodically inspect and clean the following robot components:
- DualClean Mop Pads: While the dock washes them, it's recommended to occasionally remove and hand-wash or machine-wash the pads for a deeper clean.
- Multi-Surface Rubber Brushes: Remove hair and debris tangled around the brushes.
- Edge-Sweeping Brush: Remove any tangled hair or debris.
- Filter: Check the filter regularly and tap out debris. Replace the filter as indicated by the app or every few months, depending on usage.
- Sensors: Wipe the robot's sensors with a clean, dry cloth to ensure optimal navigation.
The Roomba Home App provides maintenance alerts and tracks the "life" of consumable parts like brushes and filters, guiding you on when to clean or replace them.
