  • The microphone has a memory function that retains your last RGB setting when powered off and on. This function is only available when connected via USB.

Optimal Microphone Positioning

  • The TAM8W is a cardioid dynamic microphone, meaning it primarily picks up sound from the front. Ensure the top of the microphone is pointed directly at the sound source (e.g., your mouth).
  • For best results, position the microphone 2 to 6 inches (5 to 15 cm) from the sound source.
  • The low-profile design of the BM88 arm stand allows the microphone to sit below your shoulder line, providing an unobstructed view of your screen.

Maintenance

Cleaning

  • Wipe the microphone body and arm stand with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Do not use liquid cleaners, solvents, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the finish or internal components.
  • The foam windscreen can be gently removed and cleaned with mild soap and water if necessary, then allowed to air dry completely before reattaching.

Storage

  • When not in use, store the microphone and arm stand in a clean, dry environment away from extreme temperatures and humidity.
  • Avoid placing heavy objects on the microphone or cables.

Troubleshooting

No Sound Output

  • Check Connections: Ensure the USB or XLR cable is securely connected to both the microphone and your computer/audio interface.
  • Mute Status: If using USB, check if the microphone's mute button is active (LED indicator). Press to unmute.
  • Gain Level: If using USB, ensure the gain knob is not set to minimum. Adjust to an audible level.
  • System Settings: Verify that the FIFINE TAM8W is selected as the default input device in your computer's sound settings and your recording software.
  • XLR Setup: If using XLR, confirm your audio interface/mixer is powered on and configured correctly, and phantom power is not accidentally engaged (dynamic microphones do not require phantom power).

Poor Audio Quality / Distortion

  • Microphone Positioning: Ensure the microphone is pointed directly at the sound source and is within the recommended 2-6 inch distance.
  • Gain Adjustment: If audio is distorted, reduce the gain level. If too quiet, increase it.
  • Ambient Noise: The cardioid pattern helps reject off-axis noise, but excessive background noise can still affect quality. Try to record in a quieter environment.
  • Cable Integrity: Try a different USB or XLR cable to rule out a faulty cable.

RGB Light Not Working

  • The RGB lighting feature is only available when the microphone is connected via USB. Ensure you are using a USB connection.
  • Check the USB cable connection.
  • Press the RGB button on the microphone to cycle through modes or turn it on.
