  • Professional Installation Recommended: Car audio installation can be complex. If you are unsure about any step, consult a qualified professional installer.
  • Disconnect Battery: Always disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal before beginning any electrical work to prevent short circuits and electrical shock.
  • Wiring: Ensure all wiring is correctly connected, insulated, and secured to prevent shorts, interference, and damage. Use appropriate gauge wire.
  • Mounting: Securely mount speakers to prevent them from becoming loose during vehicle operation, which could cause injury or damage.
  • Volume Levels: Prolonged exposure to high volume levels can cause hearing damage. Adjust volume to a safe and comfortable level.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation around amplifiers (if used) to prevent overheating.

5. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for optimal sound quality and speaker longevity. It is highly recommended to have these speakers installed by a professional car audio technician.

5.1 Pre-Installation Checks

  • Ensure the speaker size (6.5 inches) is compatible with your vehicle's speaker openings.
  • Verify that your amplifier or head unit can safely power 4-Ohm speakers with 40W RMS per channel.
  • Gather all necessary tools: screwdrivers, wire strippers, crimpers, electrical tape, drill (if custom mounting).

5.2 Wiring Connections

The EL-E65 speakers are 2-way coaxial speakers, meaning the tweeter is integrated into the woofer. Each speaker has two terminals for connection:

  • Positive (+) Terminal: Typically marked with a red indicator or a larger terminal. Connect this to the positive output of your amplifier/head unit.
  • Negative (-) Terminal: Typically marked with a black indicator or a smaller terminal. Connect this to the negative output of your amplifier/head unit.

Ensure correct polarity. Incorrect wiring can lead to poor sound quality (out-of-phase audio) or damage to the speakers/amplifier.

5.3 Mounting the Speakers

  1. Remove Existing Speakers: Carefully remove the factory speakers from their mounting locations.
  2. Test Fit: Place the EL-E65 speakers into the openings to ensure a proper fit. If necessary, use adapter plates (not included) for a secure fit.
  3. Secure Mounting: Use the provided screws to firmly attach the speakers to the mounting surface. Do not overtighten.
  4. Install Grilles: If using the included grilles, snap them into place over the speakers.

6. Operating Instructions

Once properly installed and connected to a compatible amplifier or head unit, the Alpine EL-E65 speakers will reproduce audio signals. There are no specific operational controls on the speakers themselves.

  • Power On: Turn on your vehicle's audio system.
  • Volume Adjustment: Gradually increase the volume from your head unit or amplifier.
  • Audio Settings: Adjust bass, treble, balance, and fader settings on your head unit or amplifier to achieve desired sound. Avoid excessive bass or treble boost that could distort the sound or damage the speakers.
  • Break-in Period: Allow a short break-in period (e.g., 10-20 hours of normal listening) for the speaker components to loosen up and achieve their optimal sound characteristics.

7. Maintenance

The Alpine EL-E65 speakers are designed for durability and require minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe dust from the speaker cones and grilles. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Inspection: Periodically check speaker mounts and wiring connections to ensure they remain secure.
  • Avoid Moisture: While designed for vehicle use, avoid direct exposure to excessive moisture or liquids. The product is not waterproof.

  • Adjust audio settings on head unit/amplifier.
  • Ensure speakers are securely mounted.
  • Inspect speaker for physical damage.
One speaker not working
  • Faulty wiring to that specific speaker
  • Balance/fader settings incorrect
  • Speaker damaged
  • Check wiring for the non-working speaker.
  • Adjust balance/fader settings on your head unit.
  • Swap speakers (if possible) to determine if the issue is with the speaker or the wiring/source.
