Setup

Upon receiving your PrunePro Pruning Shears, carefully remove them from the packaging. Inspect the shears for any visible damage. The package includes one pair of pruning shears, one protective glove, and two extra springs.

  • Initial Cleaning: It is recommended to clean the product for the first time before use.
  • Glove Usage: Wear the provided glove on your non-dominant hand to protect it while pruning.
  • Springs: Keep the extra springs in a safe place for future replacement if needed.

Operating Instructions

The PrunePro Pruning Shears are designed for ease of use and efficiency. Follow these steps for optimal performance:

  1. Unlocking the Shears: To open the shears, locate the safety lock mechanism (orange lever) near the pivot point. Slide the lever down to release the blades. The high-tension spring will automatically open the blades.
  2. Adjusting Handle Span (Optional): The shears feature an adjustable handle span. If you have smaller hands or are cutting very small stems, you can adjust the opening to a narrower position for more comfortable and efficient use.
  3. Making a Cut: Position the branch or stem between the blades. Ensure the branch is within the 1-inch cut capacity. Squeeze the handles firmly and smoothly to make a clean cut. The precision-ground steel blade and Teflon coating ensure minimal effort.
  4. Cutting Different Sizes: For smaller, delicate cuts, utilize the narrower handle span. For branches up to 1 inch, use the full opening capacity. The shears are designed to provide a clean, flat cut without crushing or damaging your plants.
  5. Locking the Shears: After use, push the handles together until the blades are fully closed. Slide the safety lock lever up to secure the blades in the closed position. This prevents accidental opening and ensures safe storage.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance will extend the life and performance of your PrunePro Pruning Shears:

  • Cleaning: After each use, clean the blades to remove sap, dirt, and debris. You can rinse them under running water and wipe them dry with a clean cloth. The Teflon coating makes cleaning easy.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a few drops of light machine oil to the pivot point and blade surfaces to ensure smooth operation and prevent rust.
  • Blade Sharpening: While the blades are ultra-sharp and durable, they may require sharpening over time with heavy use. Use a fine-grit sharpening stone or consult a professional for sharpening.
  • Spring Replacement: If the high-tension spring loses its rebound performance or becomes damaged, replace it with one of the provided extra springs.
  • Storage: Always lock the shears in the closed position before storing. Utilize the suspendable grip hole at the end of the handle to hang them on a pegboard or hook, keeping them out of reach of children and away from heat sources or direct sunlight.

Troubleshooting

  • Shears feel stiff or hard to close/open:
    - Clean any sap or debris from the blades and pivot point.
    - Apply lubricant to the pivot and blade surfaces.
    - Check if the spring is properly seated or needs replacement.
  • Locking mechanism is stuck or difficult to engage/disengage:
    - Ensure the blades are fully closed before attempting to engage the lock.
    - Clean any dirt or debris from the locking mechanism.
    - The anti-break design prevents the lock from breaking even if forced, but proper alignment is key.
  • Blades are not cutting cleanly or are crushing branches:
    - The blades may be dull and require sharpening (refer to Maintenance section).
    - Ensure you are cutting branches within the 1-inch capacity.
    - Check for any damage to the blade edge.
  • Hand fatigue during use:
    - Ensure the handle span is adjusted correctly for your hand size.
    - Take breaks during prolonged pruning sessions.
    - Verify the spring is providing adequate tension.
