2. Setup

2.1 Initial Winding

Your Seiko SSK037 watch features an automatic mechanical movement. To start the watch after it has stopped, gently rotate the crown clockwise approximately 30 times. This will provide sufficient power reserve to begin operation. The watch will continue to wind itself through the motion of your wrist while worn.

2.2 Setting the Time and Date

  1. Pull the crown out to the second click position.
  2. Rotate the crown to set the hour and minute hands. When setting the minute hand, advance it a few minutes past the desired time and then turn it back to the exact time.
  3. Push the crown back to the normal position.
  4. To set the date, pull the crown out to the first click position. Rotate the crown clockwise until the desired date appears in the date window.
  5. Push the crown back to the normal position.

2.3 Setting the GMT Hand

The GMT hand allows you to track a second time zone. To set the GMT hand:

  1. Pull the crown out to the first click position.
  2. Rotate the crown counter-clockwise to adjust the GMT hand to the desired second time zone.
  3. Push the crown back to the normal position.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Automatic Movement

Your watch is powered by an automatic mechanical movement, which means it does not require a battery. It is powered by the natural motion of your wrist. When fully wound, the watch has a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it may stop. Simply wind it manually or wear it to restart.

3.2 Water Resistance

The Seiko SSK037 has a water resistance rating of 50 meters (5 BAR). This means it is suitable for everyday use and can withstand splashes, rain, and brief immersion in water. It is not recommended for swimming, showering, or diving, as prolonged exposure to water pressure can compromise the seals.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning

To maintain the appearance of your watch, wipe the case and bracelet regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

4.2 Periodic Inspection

It is recommended to have your watch inspected by an authorized Seiko service center every 2-3 years to ensure the water resistance and movement accuracy are maintained. Gaskets and seals may need replacement over time.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Watch Has Stopped

If your automatic watch has stopped, it likely needs to be wound. Manually wind the watch by rotating the crown clockwise about 30 times, or wear it for several hours to allow the automatic winding mechanism to build up power.

5.2 Time Inaccuracy

Slight variations in timekeeping are normal for mechanical watches. However, if your watch is consistently running too fast or too slow, it may require adjustment by a professional watchmaker. Factors like strong magnetic fields can also affect accuracy.

5.3 Condensation Inside Crystal

If you notice condensation inside the watch crystal, this indicates a breach in the water resistance. Immediately take your watch to an authorized service center to prevent further damage to the movement.
