1. Safety Information
Please read and understand all safety instructions before installing, operating, or maintaining this pump. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, serious injury, or death.
- Electrical Safety: Always disconnect the pump from the power source before performing any maintenance or adjustments. Ensure the power supply matches the pump's requirements. Do not operate the pump with a damaged power cord or plug.
- Submersion: This pump is designed for submersible use only. Ensure the pump is fully submerged during operation to prevent overheating.
- Handling: Always lift the pump by its handle. Never lift the pump by its power cord or float switch cable, as this can cause damage and create a safety hazard.
- Overheat Protection: The pump features built-in thermal overload protection. If the pump overheats, it will automatically shut off. Allow the pump to cool down before attempting to restart it. Identify and resolve the cause of overheating.
- Freezing Temperatures: In freezing conditions, ensure the pump is fully submerged and insulated to prevent water inside from freezing, which can damage the pump.

3. Setup
3.1 Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove the pump from its packaging. Inspect the pump for any signs of damage during transit. Ensure all components, including the pump, float switch, and discharge fitting, are present.
3.2 Discharge Connection
- Attach the appropriate discharge pipe (not included) to the NPT 1-1/2" discharge port on the pump.
- If a smaller hose is required, use the provided NPT 1-1/2" to 3/4" fitting. Ensure all connections are secure and watertight to prevent leaks.
3.3 Placement
Place the pump on a solid, level surface in the sump basin, septic tank, or sewage well. Ensure the pump is positioned so that the intake is clear of debris and the float switch can move freely without obstruction. The pump must be fully submerged during operation.
3.4 Float Switch Adjustment
The tethered float switch controls the automatic operation of the pump. Adjust the tether length to set the desired ON and OFF water levels. Ensure there is sufficient space for the float to move from its lowest (OFF) position to its highest (ON) position without touching the sides of the basin or other obstructions.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Automatic Operation
- Ensure the pump is properly installed and the float switch is adjusted for the desired ON/OFF water levels.
- Plug the pump's power cord into a grounded electrical outlet.
- The pump will automatically turn on when the water level rises and lifts the float switch to the ON position.
- The pump will turn off when the water level drops and the float switch returns to the OFF position.

4.2 Manual Operation (Temporary Use Only)
For temporary manual operation, you can directly plug the pump into an outlet. The pump will run continuously as long as it is plugged in. Caution: Do not run the pump dry for extended periods, as this can cause damage. Monitor the water level closely during manual operation.

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your FOTING sump pump. Always disconnect power before maintenance.
5.1 Regular Inspection
- Periodically check the pump, power cord, and float switch for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion.
- Ensure the discharge hose is free of kinks or blockages.
5.2 Cleaning the Pump Intake
The elevated suction design helps prevent clogging, but it is still important to regularly check and clean the pump intake screen. Remove any accumulated debris, such as leaves, hair, or sediment, to maintain efficient flow.
5.3 Float Switch Check
Ensure the float switch moves freely and is not obstructed by debris or the basin walls. A stuck float switch can prevent the pump from activating or deactivating correctly.
5.4 Winterization
In areas prone to freezing, if the pump is installed in an outdoor or unheated location, ensure it is fully submerged and insulated to prevent water inside the pump from freezing and causing damage. Alternatively, remove the pump for storage in a warm, dry place during winter months.
6. Troubleshooting
Before attempting any troubleshooting, always disconnect the pump from the power source.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump does not start | No power; Float switch stuck in OFF position; Thermal overload activated; Clogged intake. | Check power supply and circuit breaker; Ensure float switch moves freely; Allow pump to cool down; Clean pump intake. |
| Pump runs continuously | Float switch stuck in ON position; Water continuously entering basin; Check valve faulty. | Ensure float switch moves freely; Identify and stop water source; Inspect or replace check valve. |
| Reduced flow or no water pumped | Clogged intake or discharge pipe; Air lock; Low voltage. | Clean intake screen and discharge pipe; Ensure pump is fully submerged and air vent is clear; Check power supply voltage. |
| Excessive noise or vibration | Debris in impeller; Pump not stable; Worn bearings. | Disconnect power and clear debris from impeller; Ensure pump is on a stable surface; Contact support if bearings are suspected. |
