4. Powering the Device
The Aivica Emergency Radio offers multiple ways to ensure it's always ready for use.
4.1. USB Type-C Charging
Connect the provided USB-A to Type-C cable to the radio's Type-C input port and plug the USB-A end into a standard USB power adapter (not included) or computer USB port. The power indicator lights will show charging progress. A full charge can take several hours depending on the power source.
4.2. Hand Crank Charging
Extend the hand crank handle located on the back of the radio. Rotate the handle clockwise or counter-clockwise at a steady pace (approximately 130-150 RPM) for 3-5 minutes to generate enough power for short-term use, such as a few minutes of radio or flashlight operation, or a brief emergency call. Continuous cranking is recommended during prolonged power outages.
4.3. Solar Panel Charging
Place the radio with the solar panel facing direct sunlight. The solar panel provides a trickle charge to maintain battery life and is most effective for slow, continuous charging or topping off the battery. It is not intended as the primary charging method for a fully depleted battery.

5.1. Tuning to Stations
- Extend the telescopic antenna fully for best reception.
- Turn the Volume knob clockwise to power on the radio and adjust the desired volume level.
- Select the desired band (AM, FM, SW, or WB) using the Band selector switch.
- Slowly rotate the Tuning knob to scan for stations. The frequency display will show the current tuning.
- For NOAA Weather Band (WB), tune to the specific frequency for your region (e.g., 162.400 MHz, 162.425 MHz, 162.450 MHz, 162.475 MHz, 162.500 MHz, 162.525 MHz, 162.550 MHz).

6.2. Reading Lamp
The 96-LED reading lamp is located on the side of the radio. To activate, locate the reading lamp switch (often separate from the flashlight switch) and slide or press it. This provides a broader, softer light suitable for reading or illuminating a small area.

7. SOS Alarm Function
In an emergency, the SOS alarm can be activated to signal for help. Press and hold the dedicated SOS button. The radio will emit a loud 120dB siren and flash the flashlight. Release the button to deactivate the alarm. Use this feature responsibly and only in genuine emergency situations.

8. Charging External Devices
The Aivica Emergency Radio can function as a power bank to charge your mobile devices. Connect your device's USB charging cable to the USB-A output port on the radio. The radio's internal 20000mAh battery will begin charging your device. Note that charging external devices will deplete the radio's battery. It is recommended to use this feature primarily for emergency communication.

9. Care and Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the radio with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Storage: Store the radio in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, ensure the battery is charged to at least 50% every 3-6 months to preserve battery life.
- Water Resistance: The radio is IPX4 water-resistant, meaning it can withstand splashes. Do not submerge the radio in water. Ensure all port covers are securely closed to maintain water resistance.
- Battery Care: Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. For optimal battery health, charge the radio regularly, especially after heavy use.
10. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Radio does not turn on. | Battery is depleted. | Charge the radio using Type-C, hand crank, or solar power. |
| Poor radio reception. | Antenna not extended; weak signal area. | Fully extend the telescopic antenna. Try repositioning the radio for better signal. |
| Cannot charge external device. | Radio battery too low; incorrect cable/port. | Ensure radio has sufficient charge. Use the correct USB-A output port and a compatible charging cable for your device. |
| Hand crank is stiff or not charging. | Mechanism obstruction; improper rotation. | Ensure no debris is obstructing the crank. Rotate smoothly and consistently. |
