Setting Your Combination

The factory preset combination is 0-0-0. To set your personal combination:

  1. With the lock open, set the dials to the current combination (factory preset is 0-0-0).
  2. Locate the small reset button or lever on the side of the lock. Use a pen or pointed object to press and hold this button/lever.
  3. While holding the reset button/lever, set your desired 3-digit combination by rotating the dials.
  4. Release the reset button/lever. Your new combination is now set.
  5. Scramble the dials to lock the mechanism. Test your new combination to ensure it opens the lock correctly before installing it on a firearm.

Installation on a Firearm

Ensure the firearm is completely unloaded and not cocked before proceeding with installation.

  1. Open the trigger lock by setting the dials to the correct combination and moving the release lever to the open position. Pull the two sides of the gun lock apart.
  2. Insert the front lock unit (with the ratchet post) through the trigger guard, positioning it behind the trigger if possible.
  3. Align the rear unit with the front unit, ensuring the outside edges of both units match. The self-adjusting pins allow the lock to be installed in various positions for a secure fit.
  4. After determining the best locking position, press the two units together firmly. Make sure the lock is tight and cannot be moved. If necessary, press the units tighter until they are immovable.
  5. Move the release lever back down to the locked position and scramble the combination dials to secure the lock.

Operation

To lock the firearm, ensure the lock is properly installed as per the installation instructions. Once the two units are pressed together and the release lever is in the locked position, scramble the combination dials. This will prevent the lock from being opened without the correct combination.

To unlock, rotate the dials to your preset 3-digit combination. Once the correct combination is entered, move the release lever to the open position, and the two units will separate, allowing removal from the firearm.

Care and Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and proper function of your Master Lock trigger lock, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the lock periodically with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the finish or internal mechanisms.
  • Lubrication: If the dials become stiff, apply a small amount of graphite lubricant (not oil) to the moving parts.
  • Storage: Store the lock in a dry environment when not in use.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the lock for any signs of wear or damage. Ensure the rubber pads are intact to continue protecting your firearm's finish.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your trigger lock, consider the following:

  • Lock not opening: Double-check that the combination dials are precisely aligned with your set code. Ensure the release lever is fully moved to the open position.
  • Difficulty installing: Ensure the firearm is completely unloaded. The lock is designed to fit most firearms, but some trigger guards may require slight adjustment of the lock's position to achieve a tight fit. Press the units together firmly until they are immovable.
  • Dials are stiff: Apply a small amount of graphite lubricant to the dials. Avoid using oil-based lubricants.
  • Lost combination: If you forget your combination, there is no master key or override. You will need to try combinations or contact Master Lock support for potential solutions, though combination locks are generally not recoverable without the code.
