Setup Guide

1. Download the CarPal App

Search for "CarPal" in the Apple App Store (for iOS devices) or Google Play Store (for Android devices). Download and install the application on your smartphone or tablet.

2. Connect the CarPal Device to Your Vehicle

Locate your vehicle's OBD2 port, typically found under the dashboard on the driver's side. Plug the TOPDON CarPal scanner firmly into the OBD2 port. The device will power on automatically, indicated by a blue light.

3. Pair with Bluetooth

Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone or tablet. Open the CarPal app. The app will automatically search for and connect to the CarPal device. If prompted, confirm the pairing. Some devices may require manual Bluetooth connection from your phone's settings before opening the app.

4. Account Setup and Vehicle Information

Follow the in-app instructions to create an account or log in. You will be prompted to enter your vehicle's VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). For American cars from 2006 onwards, AutoVIN may automatically detect the VIN. For older vehicles or specific models, manual VIN input may be required.

Operating Instructions

Vehicle Health Check

Once connected, navigate to the "Vehicle Health Check" section in the CarPal app. This function performs a comprehensive scan of all crucial vehicle systems, including engine, transmission, ABS, airbags, and more. The scan results will display the overall health status of your vehicle.

Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

If a fault is detected, the app will display Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Each code comes with a description and an indication of its severity (severe or minor). To clear codes, select the "Clear Codes" option. Ensure you understand the cause of the code before clearing to prevent recurrence.

Live Data Stream

Access the "Live Data" function to view real-time parameters from your vehicle's sensors. This includes engine RPM, vehicle speed, coolant temperature, oxygen sensor readings, and more. This feature is useful for diagnosing intermittent issues and monitoring vehicle performance.

Maintenance Services

The CarPal scanner supports 6 common maintenance reset services:

• Oil Reset: Resets the oil life reminder after an oil change.
• TPMS Reset: Resets the Tire Pressure Monitoring System after tire rotation or sensor replacement.
• BMS Reset: Resets the Battery Management System after battery replacement.
• EPB Reset: Resets the Electronic Parking Brake system after brake pad replacement.
• Throttle Adaptation: Relearns the throttle body position.
• DPF Regeneration: Initiates the Diesel Particulate Filter regeneration process.

Follow the on-screen prompts within the app for each specific service.

Smog Check (I/M Readiness)

Use the "I/M Readiness" function to check if your vehicle's emission systems are ready for an inspection. This helps determine if your vehicle will pass a smog test.

Repair Guide

The app provides tailored repair instructions for detected fault codes, assisting users in prioritizing repairs and making informed decisions.

Maintenance and Care

• Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• Storage: Store the CarPal scanner in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
• Software Updates: Regularly check the CarPal app for software updates to ensure optimal performance and compatibility with new vehicle models. Updates are typically performed through the app.

Troubleshooting

Device Not Powering On

Ensure the CarPal scanner is firmly plugged into the vehicle's OBD2 port. Check the vehicle's ignition status; some vehicles require the ignition to be in the "ON" position (engine off) for the OBD2 port to be active.

Bluetooth Connection Issues

Verify that Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device. Try restarting both the CarPal app and your mobile device's Bluetooth. If the issue persists, try unpairing and re-pairing the device in your phone's Bluetooth settings. Ensure no other Bluetooth devices are interfering.

App Not Recognizing Vehicle VIN

Confirm that the VIN was entered correctly if done manually. For AutoVIN, ensure your vehicle is a 2006 model or newer (for American cars). If issues persist, try a different vehicle or contact support.

Unable to Clear Codes
