4. Setup Guide

4.1 Hardware Installation

  1. Attach Antennas: Screw the four external antennas onto the SMA connectors on the router. Ensure they are securely fastened.
  2. Insert SIM Card(s): Open the SIM card slot cover. Insert one or two Nano-SIM cards into the designated slots (SIM1, SIM2) with the gold contacts facing down and the notched corner oriented correctly. Close the cover.
  3. Connect Power: Connect the power adapter to the router's power port and then plug it into an electrical outlet. The router will power on automatically.
  4. Optional Ethernet Connection: If using a wired WAN connection, connect an Ethernet cable from your modem to the router's WAN port. If connecting a wired device to the router, use a LAN port.

4.2 Initial Configuration

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi: On your computer or mobile device, connect to the router's default Wi-Fi network. The SSID (network name) and password are typically printed on a label on the bottom of the router.
  2. Access Admin Panel: Open a web browser and navigate to http://192.168.8.1.
  3. Set New Password: Follow the on-screen prompts to set a new administrator password for the router.
  4. Configure Internet Connection: The router will guide you through setting up your internet connection. For cellular connections, ensure your SIM card is active and the APN settings are correct (these are often auto-detected).

5.1 Network Modes

The GL-X2000 (Spitz Plus) supports various operating modes:

  • Router Mode: The default mode, providing internet access via cellular or WAN and distributing it to connected devices.

  • Primary/Secondary: Designate one SIM as primary and the other as a backup for automatic failover.

Utilize multiple internet connection methods simultaneously, including cellular, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi repeater. The Multi-WAN feature allows for load balancing or failover between these connections, ensuring continuous internet access.

5.4 VPN Setup

The GL-X2000 comes with OpenVPN and WireGuard pre-installed, supporting over 30 VPN service providers. This encrypts all network traffic within the connected network, enhancing privacy and security.

  • OpenVPN: Max. speed of 30 Mbps (via Ethernet).
  • WireGuard: Max. speed of 190 Mbps (via Ethernet).
