3. Setup
3.1 Initial Inspection
Before first use, carefully inspect your helmet for any signs of damage from shipping. Ensure all components are securely in place.
3.2 Retention System Adjustment
The Microlock® retention system must be correctly adjusted for a secure fit. Fasten the chin strap and adjust its length so that it is snug under your chin without causing discomfort. The helmet should not move excessively when you try to rotate it on your head.
3.3 Pinlock Inner Visor Installation
If not pre-installed, carefully install the Pinlock anti-fog inner visor according to the instructions provided with the Pinlock insert. Ensure it is seated correctly to create an airtight seal.
3.4 N-Com Communication System (Optional)
The N100-5 is designed for easy integration with Nolan's N-Com communication systems. Refer to the specific N-Com system's manual for installation instructions.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Opening and Closing the Chin Guard
To open the chin guard, locate the Dual Action release mechanism, typically positioned at the center of the chin bar. Simultaneously press the two buttons or levers to unlock and lift the chin guard. To close, firmly push the chin guard down until it locks securely into place. The P/J homologation allows riding with the chin guard in either the open or closed position.
4.2 Visor Operation
The ultrawide clear visor can be opened and closed using the tab located on the lower edge. It features multiple detent positions for airflow control. Ensure the visor is fully closed for maximum protection while riding.
4.3 VPS Sunscreen Operation
The internal VPS sunscreen is operated by a slider mechanism, usually located on the left side of the helmet. Slide it down to deploy the sunscreen and up to retract it. Use the sunscreen in bright conditions and retract it in low light or at night.
4.4 Ventilation System
The Air Booster Technology ventilation system includes adjustable vents on the chin guard and top of the helmet. Open these vents to increase airflow and close them to reduce it, depending on weather conditions and personal preference. Rear extractors help to draw warm air out of the helmet.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning the Shell
Clean the helmet shell with a soft cloth and mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or petroleum-based products, as these can damage the helmet's finish and materials. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft, clean cloth.
5.2 Visor and Sunscreen Care
Clean the visor and VPS sunscreen with a soft cloth and lukewarm water. For stubborn dirt, use a specialized helmet visor cleaner. Do not use harsh chemicals. The Pinlock inner visor should be handled with care; clean it only with a soft, damp cloth and avoid rubbing its inner surface.
5.3 Interior Padding
The "Climate Comfort" interior padding is fully removable and washable. Remove the padding components according to the instructions in the full product manual (if available). Hand wash with mild soap and cold water, then air dry completely before re-installing.
5.4 Storage
Store your helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use the included helmet bag to protect it from dust and scratches.
5.5 Regular Inspection
Periodically inspect the helmet for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage to the shell, visor mechanism, chin strap, or interior padding. If any damage is found, discontinue use and consult a qualified technician or the manufacturer.
6. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter:
- Visor Fogging: Ensure the Pinlock inner visor is correctly installed and sealed. If fogging persists, check for damage to the Pinlock or consider replacing it. Ensure adequate ventilation by opening vents.
- Chin Guard Not Locking: Verify that the chin guard is aligned correctly and push firmly until you hear a click. Inspect the locking mechanism for any obstructions or damage.
- Excessive Noise: Ensure all vents are closed if not needed. Check that the visor is fully closed and sealed.
For issues not covered here, or if problems persist, contact Nolan customer support or an authorized dealer.

8. Safety Information
Your Nolan N100-5 helmet is designed to provide significant protection, but no helmet can protect against all foreseeable impacts. Adhere to the following safety guidelines:
- Proper Fit: Always ensure your helmet fits snugly and securely. A helmet that is too loose may not provide adequate protection.
- Chin Strap: Always fasten the Microlock® chin strap securely before riding. The strap should be tight enough that you cannot remove the helmet by pulling it from the back.
- Visor Use: Keep the main visor closed while riding to protect your eyes and face from debris and wind. Use the VPS sunscreen only in appropriate lighting conditions.
- Helmet Lifespan: Helmets have a limited lifespan. Materials can degrade over time, and impacts can compromise structural integrity even if visible damage is not present. Replace your helmet after any significant impact or after approximately five years of regular use.
- Chemical Exposure: Avoid exposing your helmet to gasoline, cleaning fluids, paints, or other chemicals, as these can weaken the helmet materials and compromise its protective capabilities.
