2. Safety Information: MIPS Technology

The Giro Terra MIPS helmet incorporates the Multi-Directional Impact Protection System (MIPS). MIPS is a helmet safety technology designed to reduce rotational forces that can result from certain impacts. When a head rotates quickly and comes to a sudden stop, rotational acceleration can cause high levels of strain in the brain tissue. The MIPS low-friction layer inside the helmet allows a multi-directional movement of 10-15mm on certain angled impacts, intended to help reduce rotational force to the head.

Important: No helmet can protect against all foreseeable impacts. Always wear a helmet that fits properly and is in good condition. Replace your helmet after any significant impact, even if there is no visible damage.

3. Setup and Fitting

3.1. In Form 2 Fit System

The In Form 2 Fit System allows for quick and easy adjustment of your helmet's fit. This system is lighter and features a lower profile than previous versions.

  1. Adjusting the Dial: Locate the improved dial design at the back of the helmet. Rotate the dial to tighten or loosen the fit. The system provides up to 6cm of adjustment.
  2. Vertical Tuning: The easy-adjust Vertical Tuning feature accommodates different goggle sizes and head shapes. Adjust this to eliminate any "gaper gap" between your goggles and helmet.

4. Operating Features

4.1. Passive Aggressive Venting System

The helmet features a Passive Aggressive Venting System. This system uses discreet exterior vents and interior channeling to create optimal airflow and temperature regulation. This auto-venting technology manages airflow and temperature effectively whether you are riding, hiking, or standing still.

  • Removable Goggle Retainer: The goggle retainer can be removed if desired.
  • Removable Earpads: Earpads are removable for cleaning or to accommodate aftermarket audio systems.

5. Maintenance and Care

To maintain the integrity and longevity of your Giro Terra MIPS helmet, follow these care instructions:

  • Clean the helmet exterior with a soft cloth, mild soap, and water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Remove earpads and wash them gently by hand with mild soap and water. Allow them to air dry completely before reattaching.
  • Store the helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Do not modify the helmet in any way, as this can compromise its protective capabilities.

6. Troubleshooting

If you experience any issues with your Giro Terra MIPS helmet, please refer to the following general advice:

  • Improper Fit: Re-adjust the In Form 2 Fit System dial and vertical tuning to achieve a snug, comfortable fit. Ensure there is no excessive movement.
  • Goggle Gap: Adjust the vertical tuning of the helmet and the strap of your goggles to eliminate any gaps.
  • Discomfort: Ensure earpads are correctly seated. If discomfort persists, verify helmet size.
