3. Setup Guide

3.1 Initial Wiring

  1. Connect Power Adapter: Connect the power adapter to the router's power port and plug it into an electrical outlet.

  2. Connect to Modem (ONU): Use the provided LAN cable to connect the router's WAN port to your modem (ONU).

  3. Wait for LED Indicator: Wait until the LED indicator on the router turns green, indicating a successful connection.

3.2 Network Configuration via ZTE Smart Life App

The ZTE Smart Life app provides an easy way to set up and manage your router.

  1. Download and Install the App: Download the "ZTE Smart Life" app from your device's app store (Google Play Store for Android or Apple App Store for iOS). You can also scan the QR code provided on the Wi-Fi Information Card.

  2. Create an Account: Launch the app and create a new account. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please check your spam folder or consider using a free email service like Gmail.
  3. Connect to Wi-Fi: On your smartphone, go to Wi-Fi settings, select the SSID (network name) found on your Wi-Fi Information Card, and enter the password to connect to the router's Wi-Fi network.
  4. Configure Device in App: After connecting to the Wi-Fi, open the ZTE Smart Life app. If an unregistered device is displayed, select "Local" and proceed with the Wi-Fi settings.

  5. Customize Internet and Wi-Fi Settings: Navigate to "Network Settings → Connection Method" within the app. Configure the connection method according to your internet service provider's contract details to establish an internet connection. The default connection method is DHCP.

  6. Change SSID and Password: From "Wi-Fi Management → Wi-Fi Settings", change the SSID and password to your preferred settings. This completes the setup.

3.3 Network Configuration via Web Browser

You can also configure your router using a web browser on a computer.

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi: On your computer, connect to the router's Wi-Fi network using the SSID and password found on the included Wi-Fi Information Card.
  2. Access Router Management Page: Open a web browser and enter the local management address (found on the Wi-Fi Information Card) into the address bar. This page may open automatically when connected to the Wi-Fi; if not, enter it manually.
  3. Login: On the login page, enter the username and password provided on the Wi-Fi Information Card.
  4. Change Default Password: After logging in, you will be prompted to change the default password for security reasons. Create a strong, new password.
  5. Quick Setup: Click "Try Now" or "Quick Setup" (usually located in the upper right corner of the homepage) to begin the guided setup.
  6. Select Connection Method: Choose the connection method that matches your internet service provider's requirements. DHCP is the default. If unsure, contact your ISP.
  7. Customize Wi-Fi Settings: Change the SSID and password for your Wi-Fi network to your desired values. Save the settings to complete the configuration.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Wall Mounting

The ZTE Kumo AX3000 features a slim design and can be easily wall-mounted using traceless tape or its magnetic stand, allowing for flexible placement and space-saving.

4.2 Connecting Devices

Once the router is set up, you can connect your devices:

  • Wireless Devices: Search for your Wi-Fi network (SSID) on your smartphone, tablet, laptop, or other Wi-Fi enabled devices and enter the password.
  • Wired Devices: Connect devices like desktop computers, gaming consoles (e.g., PS5, Nintendo Switch), or smart TVs to the router's LAN ports using Ethernet cables for a stable, high-speed connection.

4.3 LED Indicator Status

The LED indicator on the router provides information about its status:

  • Solid Green: Internet connection is active and working normally.
  • Flashing Green: Establishing connection or data transfer.
  • Solid Red: No internet connection or an error has occurred.
  • Off: Device is powered off.

5. Advanced Features

5.1 EasyMesh Wi-Fi

The ZTE Kumo AX3000 supports EasyMesh, allowing you to create a unified Wi-Fi network throughout your home. By adding compatible EasyMesh devices, you can extend your Wi-Fi coverage and eliminate dead zones, ensuring a stable connection even in large multi-story homes.

5.2 Enhanced Security (IPv6 & WPA3)

6. Troubleshooting

  • No Internet Connection:
    • Check if the WAN cable is securely connected to both the router and the modem.
    • Verify that the modem is powered on and functioning correctly.
    • Restart both the modem and the router by unplugging them for 30 seconds and then plugging them back in.
    • Confirm your internet connection settings in the ZTE Smart Life app or web interface match your ISP's requirements.
  • Slow Wi-Fi Speed:
    • Ensure your devices are connected to the 5GHz band for higher speeds, if supported.
    • Reduce the distance between your device and the router, or consider adding an EasyMesh compatible device to extend coverage.
    • Check for interference from other electronic devices (e.g., microwaves, cordless phones).
    • Limit the number of simultaneously connected devices or bandwidth-intensive activities.
  • Cannot Connect to Wi-Fi:
    • Verify that you are entering the correct Wi-Fi password (case-sensitive).
    • Check if the Wi-Fi network (SSID) is visible. If not, ensure Wi-Fi broadcasting is enabled in the router settings.
    • Restart your device and try connecting again.
  • Router Not Responding:
    • Perform a factory reset by pressing and holding the Reset button on the router for about 10 seconds. Note: This will erase all custom settings.
