Please read all instructions carefully before beginning installation to ensure proper fitment and safe use.

2. Safety Information

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during installation, including safety glasses and gloves.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Do not overtighten fasteners. Refer to torque specifications if available, or tighten securely.
  • Verify all components are securely fastened before driving the vehicle.
  • Regularly inspect the running boards and mounting hardware for any signs of wear, damage, or looseness.

3. Parts List

Please verify all parts are present before beginning installation:

  • 2 × Side Steps (Passenger and Driver Side)
  • 6 × Mounting Brackets

4. Tools Required

The following tools are typically required for installation:

  • Ratchet
  • Socket Set (common sizes for automotive fasteners, typically 13mm, 16mm, 18mm)
  • Wrench Set
  • Torque Wrench (recommended for final tightening)

5. Setup and Installation

These running boards are designed for direct bolt-on installation to factory locations, requiring no drilling. If your vehicle has existing factory running boards, please remove them prior to installation.

5.1. Verify Vehicle Compatibility

These running boards are specifically designed for Crew Cab models (4 Full-Size Doors) of the 2015-2025 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. They are not compatible with Extended Cab models (2 Full-Size Front Doors).

5.2. Installation Steps

Follow these steps for proper installation:

  1. Identify Mounting Locations: Locate the factory mounting points along the rocker panel of your truck. There are typically three mounting points per side.
  2. Attach Brackets: Secure the mounting brackets to the vehicle's frame using the provided hardware. Ensure the correct bracket (driver side/passenger side, front/middle/rear) is used for each location. Keep bolts hand-tight initially to allow for adjustment.
  3. Position Running Board: Carefully lift the running board into position and align it with the attached brackets.
  4. Secure Running Board to Brackets: Attach the running board to the brackets using the remaining hardware. Again, keep bolts hand-tight for now.
  5. Adjust and Level: Adjust the running board to ensure it is level and properly positioned along the vehicle's side.
  6. Final Tightening: Once satisfied with the alignment, fully tighten all mounting hardware to the manufacturer's recommended torque specifications.

6. Operating Instructions

The running boards provide a convenient step for easier entry and exit from your truck. They also offer robust side and undercarriage protection.

  • Use the non-slip step pads to safely step into and out of your vehicle.
  • Ensure your footwear has good grip, especially in wet or muddy conditions.
  • Avoid placing excessive weight on the running boards beyond their rated capacity (350 lbs per side).

7. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and appearance of your Hooke Road running boards, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Regular Cleaning: Clean the running boards regularly with mild soap and water to remove dirt, mud, and road grime. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that could damage the textured black powder coat finish.
  • Inspect Fasteners: Periodically check all mounting bolts and nuts to ensure they remain tight. Retighten as necessary.
  • Check for Damage: Inspect the running boards for any signs of physical damage, such as dents, bends, or rust. Address any issues promptly to prevent further deterioration.
  • Corrosion Protection: The textured black powder coat finish with premium E-coating provides excellent corrosion resistance. However, in harsh environments (e.g., areas with road salt), additional protective sprays can be applied if desired.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your running boards, consider the following:

  • Loose or Rattling Running Boards: Check all mounting hardware. Ensure all bolts are securely tightened. Over time, vibrations can cause fasteners to loosen.
  • Rust Formation: While designed for corrosion resistance, exposure to harsh elements can lead to rust. Clean affected areas thoroughly and apply a rust-inhibiting paint or coating. Regular maintenance can help prevent this.
  • Difficulty Stepping: Ensure the running boards are installed correctly and are level. Verify that the drop-down steps are not obstructed.

For persistent issues, please contact Hooke Road customer support.
