2.2 Adjusting Pole Length (Speed Lock Plus)

The Khumbu FX TA poles feature the Speed Lock Plus system for quick and secure length adjustments.

  1. Open the Speed Lock Plus lever located on the upper shaft of the pole.
  2. Adjust the pole to your desired length. The poles are available in a 110-130 cm range (standard) or 100-120 cm range (compact). Refer to the markings on the pole for precise adjustment.
  3. Close the Speed Lock Plus lever firmly until it is flush with the pole shaft. Ensure the lever is fully closed to prevent accidental collapse during use.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Proper Grip Technique

The Aergon COR-TEC grip is designed for ergonomic comfort. Insert your hand through the strap from below, then grasp the grip and the strap together. This technique allows for efficient power transfer and reduces strain on your hands and wrists.

3.2 Using the Extended Foam Grip

For uneven terrain or steep ascents where quick adjustments are needed, the extended foam grip below the main handle allows you to choke down on the pole without changing its length. This provides immediate adaptability to changing trail conditions.

3.3 Terrain Adaptability

The poles are equipped with a micro basket and flex tip, optimized for various mountain terrains. The carbide tip provides secure grip on hard surfaces, while the basket prevents the pole from sinking too deep into soft ground.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your LEKI trekking poles.

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the pole sections with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris. Ensure all sections are dry before collapsing and storing to prevent corrosion.
  • Inspecting Locking Mechanisms: Periodically check the Speed Lock Plus levers for proper function. If a lever feels loose, it can often be tightened with a small adjustment screw.
  • Tip and Basket Inspection: Examine the carbide tips and baskets for wear or damage. Replace worn tips or damaged baskets as needed to maintain optimal performance and safety.
  • Storage: Store poles in a dry, cool place, ideally in their collapsed state to protect the internal tension cord.

5. Troubleshooting

  • Pole sections not locking securely: Ensure the Speed Lock Plus lever is fully closed. If it still slips, the tension of the lever may need to be adjusted. Refer to the manufacturer's guidelines for specific adjustment procedures.
  • Difficulty collapsing or extending poles: Check for any dirt or debris obstructing the push-button mechanism or the internal cord. Clean the sections thoroughly.
  • Unusual noises during use: Inspect all connections and locking mechanisms for proper seating. Ensure no parts are loose or damaged.
