Setup and Assembly

The ACTBEST Race Electric Bike comes partially assembled. Follow these steps carefully to complete the assembly process. Refer to the assembly video for visual guidance.

Video 1: Official Actbest Race Electric Bike Unboxing and Assembly Guide. This video demonstrates the step-by-step process of unboxing and assembling your new e-bike, including handlebar, front wheel, and pedal installation.

  1. Unboxing and Inspection: Carefully remove the bike and all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage during transit. Ensure all parts listed in the packing list are present.
  2. Handlebar Assembly: Loosen the screws on the stem, turn the stem to the correct forward position, and then tighten the screws. Remove the cover from the handlebar clamp, position the handlebar, and secure it by tightening the screws evenly.
  3. Front Wheel Installation: Remove the protective cap and screw from the front fork. Place the front wheel under the front fork, aligning the disc brake rotor with the caliper. Insert the quick-release skewer through the hub, tighten the nut, and close the quick-release lever securely.
  4. Headlights and Taillights: Attach the headlight to the front fork using the provided bracket and screws. Secure the taillight to the seat post. Ensure both are firmly attached and facing the correct direction.
  5. Seat Post and Saddle: Insert the seat post with the saddle attached into the bike's seat tube. Adjust the height to a comfortable riding position and secure it with the quick-release clamp. Ensure the minimum insertion mark is not visible.
  6. Pedal Installation: Identify the left (L) and right (R) pedals. The right pedal (R) threads clockwise, and the left pedal (L) threads counter-clockwise. Apply a small amount of grease to the threads and carefully screw each pedal into its respective crank arm. Tighten firmly with a wrench.
  7. Reflector Installation: Attach the white reflector to the front wheel spokes and the red reflector to the rear wheel spokes. Ensure they are securely fastened and visible.
  8. Battery Installation: Insert the removable battery into its housing on the bike frame. Lock it in place using the key provided. Ensure it is fully seated and secure before riding.

Operating Instructions

Understanding the various operating modes and controls will enhance your riding experience.

Riding Modes:

Your ACTBEST Race Electric Bike offers multiple riding modes to suit different preferences and terrains:

  • Pedal Assist Mode (PAS): Provides electric assistance as you pedal. There are 5 levels of assistance, allowing you to choose the amount of power boost you receive. This mode is ideal for extending range and making climbs easier.
  • Throttle-Only Mode: Engages the motor without pedaling, similar to a motorcycle. This mode is useful for quick acceleration or when you need a break from pedaling.
  • Manual Mode: The bike operates like a traditional bicycle, with no electric assistance. This mode is useful for exercise or when the battery is depleted.
  • Walk Mode: Provides a low-speed assist (typically 3-4 mph) to help you push the bike when walking alongside it.

Gear Shifting:

The bike features a Shimano 21-speed gear system. Use the shifters on the handlebars to change gears according to terrain and desired speed. Lower gears are for climbing hills, and higher gears are for flat terrain and speed.

Display Usage:

The handlebar-mounted display provides crucial information and allows you to control the e-bike's functions:

  • Power On/Off: Press and hold the power button to turn the display and e-bike system on or off.
  • Assist Level Adjustment: Use the UP and DOWN arrow buttons to cycle through the 5 pedal assist levels.
  • Information Display: The display shows current speed, battery level, odometer, trip distance, and assist level.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of your e-bike.

  • Battery Care: Charge the battery regularly, even if not in use, to maintain its health. Avoid fully discharging the battery. Store in a cool, dry place.
  • Tire Pressure: Check tire pressure before each ride. Maintain the recommended PSI (pounds per square inch) found on the tire sidewall for optimal performance and safety.
  • Brake Checks: Regularly inspect brake pads for wear and ensure brake levers provide firm and responsive stopping power. Adjust or replace as needed. The bike features dual disc brakes for reliable stopping.
  • Chain Lubrication: Keep the chain clean and lubricated to ensure smooth gear changes and prevent rust.
  • General Cleaning: Clean your bike regularly with a damp cloth. Avoid using high-pressure washers directly on electrical components.
  • Fastener Checks: Periodically check all bolts and fasteners for tightness, especially on critical components like handlebars, wheels, and seat post.

Troubleshooting

Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:

  • Bike Not Powering On: Check if the battery is fully charged and properly seated in its compartment. Ensure the key is turned to the 'ON' position and the power button on the display is pressed.
  • Motor Not Engaging: Verify that the pedal assist level is not set to '0'. Check all electrical connections for looseness or damage. Ensure brake levers are not partially engaged, as this can cut motor power.
  • Reduced Range: This could be due to low tire pressure, riding in high assist modes frequently, riding against strong headwinds, or carrying heavy loads. Ensure proper tire inflation and consider using lower assist levels for longer rides.
  • Brakes Squealing: This is often caused by dirt or moisture on the brake pads or rotors. Clean the brake components. If squealing persists, brake pads may need replacement or adjustment.
  • Gears Not Shifting Smoothly: The derailleur may need adjustment. Check for bent hanger or stretched cables. Regular chain lubrication can also improve shifting.

If you encounter issues not listed here or if the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact customer support.
