6. Setup

1. Power Connection: Connect the provided USB cable to the 'USB IN' port on the rear panel and plug the other end into a DC 5V (≥1A) USB power adapter (not included) or a compatible USB port.
2. Audio Input Connection:
   • Line Input: Connect your audio source (e.g., CD player, MP3 player, computer, phone) to either the RCA 'LINE 1 IN' or 3.5mm AUX 'LINE 2 IN' ports using the appropriate cable.
   • Microphone Input: For ambient sound detection, ensure the 'MIC/LINE' switch is set to 'MIC'. No external audio cable is needed for this mode.
3. Audio Output Connection (Optional): If using the VU56PRO as an audio splitter/switcher, connect your amplifier or active speakers to either the RCA 'LINE 1 OUT' or 3.5mm AUX 'LINE 2 OUT' ports.
4. Power On: Long press the 'MODE' switch for 3 seconds to power on the device. The LED display will illuminate.

7. Operating Instructions

7.1 Display Modes (PPM / VU)

The VU56PRO supports two primary display modes:

• PPM Mode (Peak Programme Meter): 0dB = 1.5Vpp. Recommended for general dynamic display and visual effects.
• VU Mode (Volume Unit): 0dB = 0.775Vrms. More suitable for professional audio level monitoring.

Switch between these modes using the remote control or the 'MODE' button on the device.

7.2 Display Customization

The VU56PRO offers extensive customization options for its LED display:

• Display Effects: Choose from 8 different display effects to personalize the visual experience.
• Display Color: The main bar and peak LED colors can be switched between green and red.
• Brightness Adjustment: Adjust the display brightness across 4 levels.
• Display Length Gain: Adjust the sensitivity of the display with 3 levels: -3dB, 0dB, +3dB.

7.3 Remote Control Operation

All settings can be conveniently adjusted using the included remote control. Settings are automatically saved even after the device is powered off.

  • Adjust the 'Display Length Gain' setting via the remote control.
• Incorrect Level Display:
  • The maximum effective input level is 1.8Vrms. Exceeding this may result in a full display.
  • Adjust the input level from your audio source or use the 'Display Length Gain' setting.
  • Ensure the correct display mode (PPM or VU) is selected for your application.
• Remote Control Not Responding:
  • Check the battery in the remote control and replace if necessary.
  • Ensure there are no obstructions between the remote and the device.
