3. Setup
- Position the Compressor: Place the compressor on a stable, level surface near the tire to be inflated. Ensure it is away from dirt, dust, and moisture.
- Connect Power:
- Attach the SAE battery clamps to your vehicle's 12V battery terminals. Connect the red clamp to the positive (+) terminal and the black clamp to the negative (-) terminal.
- Alternatively, if your vehicle is equipped, connect the pre-installed 2-pin SAE connector to a compatible power adapter, such as VIAIR's 7-way Trailer Plug adapter (sold separately).
Important: Ensure your vehicle's engine is running to provide adequate power to the compressor and prevent battery drain.
- Connect Air Hose: Connect one end of a coiled air hose to the compressor's air outlet. Connect the other end of the coiled air hose to the inflation gun. If more reach is needed, connect the second coiled air hose in series.
- Attach Chuck: Select the appropriate chuck (45-degree dually chuck or 40-inch 90-degree twist-on chuck) for your tire valve and attach it to the inflation gun.
4. Operation
- Power On: Locate the ON/OFF switch on the compressor and turn it to the 'ON' position. The compressor will pressurize the hose to 150 PSI and then turn off automatically.
- Connect to Tire Valve: Securely attach the selected chuck to the tire's valve stem. Ensure a tight seal to prevent air leakage.
- Inflate Tire: Pull the trigger on the inflation gun to begin inflating the tire. The pressure gauge on the inflation gun will display the current tire pressure.
- Monitor Pressure: Continuously monitor the pressure gauge. Release the trigger periodically to check the static tire pressure. Inflate to the recommended PSI for your tire, typically found on the vehicle's door jamb or owner's manual.
- Disconnect: Once the desired pressure is reached, release the trigger, turn the compressor OFF, and disconnect the chuck from the tire valve.
- Repeat: Repeat the process for all other tires requiring inflation.

The VIAIR 400P-RV EF is capable of filling a 275/80/22.5 tire from 80 to 90 PSI in approximately 1 minute and 52 seconds.
5. Maintenance
- Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the compressor and accessories with a clean, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Storage: Store the compressor and all accessories in the provided heavy-duty carrying bag in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Inspect Hoses and Connections: Regularly inspect air hoses for cracks, kinks, or damage. Check all connections for tightness. Replace damaged components immediately.
- Air Filter: Periodically check the air filter for dirt and debris. Clean or replace as necessary to maintain optimal performance.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Compressor does not turn on. | No power connection, loose battery clamps, vehicle engine off, blown fuse. | Ensure battery clamps are securely connected. Start vehicle engine. Check vehicle's fuse box for a blown fuse and replace if necessary. |
| Slow inflation or low pressure. | Air leak in hose or connections, clogged air filter, compressor overheating. | Check all hose connections for leaks. Inspect air filter and clean/replace if clogged. Allow compressor to cool down if it has been running for an extended period. |
| Compressor runs but no air comes out. | Hose kinked, chuck not properly attached to valve stem, internal blockage. | Check for kinks in the air hose. Ensure the chuck is securely attached to the tire valve. If problem persists, contact customer support. |
