1. Important Safety Instructions
Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations, and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and sturdy footwear when operating the chainsaw.
- Work Area Safety: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
- Electrical Safety: Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
- Battery Compatibility: This chainsaw is compatible with Makita 18V LTX batteries (e.g., BL1850B, BL1840B, BL1830B). It is NOT compatible with G series batteries (e.g., BL1813G, BL1413G) or 18V Ni-CD batteries. Using incompatible batteries may result in damage or injury.
- Overheating Risk: The motor's compact size may lead to overheating during prolonged use, especially in warm conditions. Allow the tool to cool down if it becomes excessively warm.
- Chain Maintenance: Regularly check chain tension and ensure it is properly oiled. A loose chain can be dangerous, and lack of lubrication can cause premature wear and overheating.
- Secure Grip: Always maintain a firm, one-handed grip on the chainsaw during operation.

- Thick Steel Integrated Guide Plate: Supports the saw chain and guides it through the material.
- Anti Flying Baffle: Designed to prevent debris from splashing during operation, enhancing user safety.
- Chain Tension Adjustment: Allows for manual adjustment of chain tightness using a screwdriver.
- Start Switch: Activates the motor when pressed.
- Safety Lock Switch: Must be pressed before the start switch can be engaged, preventing accidental startup.
- Battery: Provides power to the chainsaw. Ensure it is fully charged before use.
4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation and Charging
- Ensure the battery is fully charged using the provided charger. The included batteries typically provide 10-15 minutes of runtime.
- Align the charged battery with the battery slot at the base of the chainsaw handle.
- Slide the battery into the slot until it clicks securely into place. To remove, press the release button (if present) and slide the battery out.

4.2 Chain Installation and Tension Adjustment
- Ensure the chainsaw is disconnected from the battery before handling the chain or guide plate.
- Carefully place the saw chain around the guide plate, ensuring the cutting teeth are facing the correct direction.
- Mount the guide plate and chain onto the chainsaw body.
- Use the provided screwdriver to adjust the chain tension. The chain should be snug against the guide bar but still able to be pulled around by hand without excessive force. A properly tensioned chain will not sag on the underside of the guide bar.
- Tighten the side cover screws to secure the guide plate and chain.
4.3 Oiling the Chain
This chainsaw requires manual chain oiling. Regular lubrication is crucial for optimal performance and chain longevity.
- Fill the provided oil bottle with appropriate chainsaw bar and chain oil (not included).
- Before each use and periodically during operation (approximately every 5-10 minutes of cutting), apply a small amount of oil directly to the chain and guide bar groove.
- Run the chainsaw briefly to distribute the oil.
5. Operation
Always wear safety glasses and gloves during operation.
5.1 Starting the Chainsaw
- Ensure the battery is securely installed and the chain is properly tensioned and oiled.
- Hold the chainsaw firmly with one hand on the handle.
- Press and hold the Safety Lock Switch with your thumb.
- While holding the safety lock, press the Start Switch (trigger) to activate the chainsaw. Release the safety lock once the chainsaw is running.
- To stop the chainsaw, release the Start Switch.

5.2 Cutting Techniques
This 6-inch chainsaw is designed for light-duty tasks such as pruning small branches and cutting thin wood. Do not attempt to cut materials beyond its capacity.
- Assess the Material: Before cutting, ensure the branch or wood is stable and will not pinch the chain.
- Start Slowly: Bring the running chain into contact with the material gently.
- Maintain Control: Keep a firm grip and stable stance. Let the saw do the work; do not force it.
- Avoid Kickback: Be aware of the kickback zone at the tip of the guide bar. Avoid cutting with this area.
- Clear Debris: The anti-flying baffle helps, but always be mindful of flying wood chips.

6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your chainsaw.
6.1 Cleaning
- Always remove the battery before cleaning.
- Use a brush or compressed air to remove sawdust, wood chips, and debris from the guide bar, chain, motor housing, and ventilation openings.
- Wipe down external surfaces with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents.
6.2 Chain Sharpening
A sharp chain is essential for efficient and safe cutting. If the chain becomes dull, it will cut slowly and require more force.
- Refer to a specialized guide or professional service for proper chain sharpening techniques.
- Alternatively, replace the chain with a new one when it becomes dull or damaged.
6.3 Regular Oiling
As this model requires manual oiling, ensure you lubricate the chain frequently during use to prevent excessive wear and heat buildup.
6.4 Storage
- Store the chainsaw in a dry, secure location, out of reach of children.
- Remove the battery from the chainsaw before storing for extended periods.
- Store batteries in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your chainsaw.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Chainsaw does not start. | Battery not charged or improperly installed. Safety lock not engaged. | Ensure battery is fully charged and correctly inserted. Press safety lock before trigger. |
| Short battery life (10-15 minutes). | Included batteries are lower capacity. | This is expected for the included batteries. Consider using compatible Makita 18V LTX batteries for extended runtime. |
| Motor smokes or overheats. | Prolonged heavy use. Dull chain. Lack of lubrication. | Reduce cutting load and allow the tool to cool. Sharpen or replace chain. Ensure chain is adequately oiled. If smoking persists, discontinue use and contact support. |
| Chain loosens during operation. | Improper initial tension. Vibration during use. | Immediately stop the chainsaw. Remove battery. Re-tension the chain using the screwdriver and tighten securing screws firmly. Check tension frequently. |
| Poor cutting performance. | Dull chain. Incorrect chain tension. Lack of oil. | Sharpen or replace the chain. Adjust chain tension. Ensure adequate chain lubrication. |
