4. Understanding Readings

4.1. Radon Levels

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can accumulate in homes. The Aranet Radon Detector provides readings in both Bq/m³ and pCi/L. The device uses a color-coded system on its display to give a quick visual indication of radon levels:

  • Green: Under 2.7 pCi/L (100 Bq/m³) - Low radon levels.
  • Yellow: 2.7 – 8.1 pCi/L (100 – 300 Bq/m³) - Elevated radon levels, consider mitigation.
  • Red: Above 8.1 pCi/L (300 Bq/m³) - High radon levels, immediate action recommended.
Alarm System based on scientific recommendations: Green (Under 2.7 pCi/L or 100 Bq/m³), Yellow (2.7 – 8.1 pCi/L or 100 – 300 Bq/m³), Red (Above 8.1 pCi/L or 300 Bq/m³).

4.2. Temperature, Relative Humidity, and Atmospheric Pressure

Beyond radon, the detector provides valuable environmental data:

  • Temperature: Displayed in °C or °F, helping you maintain a comfortable indoor climate.
  • Relative Humidity: Indicates the amount of moisture in the air, crucial for preventing mold growth and maintaining air quality.
  • Atmospheric Pressure: Provides insights into weather changes, which can sometimes influence radon levels.

5. Maintenance

5.1. Battery Replacement

The Aranet Radon Detector boasts an impressive battery life of up to 7 years using two AA batteries. When the battery indicator on the E-Ink display shows low power, replace both batteries with new ones to ensure continuous and accurate monitoring.

5.2. Cleaning

To maintain optimal performance, periodically clean the exterior of the device with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the display or casing. Ensure the ventilation openings are free from dust or obstructions.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1. No Display/Device Not Turning On

  • Check battery installation: Ensure batteries are inserted with correct polarity.
  • Replace batteries: If batteries are old or depleted, replace them with fresh AA batteries.

6.2. Inaccurate Readings

  • Allow stabilization time: Radon readings require time to stabilize (up to 1 hour for reliable results).
  • Relocate device: Ensure the device is placed in an area representative of the room's air, away from drafts, direct sunlight, or extreme temperatures.
  • Check for obstructions: Ensure ventilation openings are not blocked.

6.3. App Connectivity Issues

  • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone.
  • Bring your smartphone closer to the device (Bluetooth range is limited).
  • Restart the Aranet Home app.
  • Check if the device's firmware is up to date via the app.
