5. Operating Modes
The RS-393 offers multiple measurement modes to suit various needs. Use the Switch Measurement Modes button (grid icon) to cycle through them.
5.1 Single and Dual Laser Measurement
- The device supports both single and dual laser modes. In dual laser mode, it measures from both ends simultaneously.
- To switch between bilateral and single laser modes, refer to the on-screen indicators or specific button functions detailed in the user manual.
5.2 Continuous Measurement Mode
This mode allows for dynamic measurement, displaying real-time distance changes as you move the device.
- Select the continuous measurement mode.
- Move the device slowly towards or away from the target. The display will continuously update the distance.
- The device will also record maximum and minimum values during continuous measurement.

5.3 Area and Volume Measurement
These modes simplify calculations for rectangular areas and volumes.
- Area Measurement: Select the area mode. Measure the length and width. The device will automatically calculate and display the area.
- Volume Measurement: Select the volume mode. Measure the length, width, and height. The device will calculate and display the volume.
5.4 Pythagorean Mode
The Pythagorean mode allows for indirect measurements of height or width using the Pythagorean theorem.
- Select the desired Pythagorean mode (e.g., single Pythagorean, double Pythagorean).
- Follow the on-screen prompts to take the required measurements (e.g., hypotenuse, base).
- The device will calculate the unknown side.
5.5 Angle Measurement
The integrated angle sensor provides real-time angle readings.
- The angle is displayed on the screen as you tilt the device.
- The measurement range for angles is 0° to 90°.
