5. Setup and Installation
The MIZUDO Electric Mini Tank Water Heater is designed for easy installation, typically floor-mounted in a discreet location such as under a sink. Ensure you have the necessary tools and follow all local plumbing and electrical codes.
5.1 Pre-Installation Steps
- Unpack the water heater and inspect for any shipping damage.
- Ensure all included accessories are present: User Manual, T&P Relief Valve, Drain Pipe, Hose Connector, and Silicone Pads.
- Select a suitable location for installation, ensuring adequate space and access for maintenance. The unit can be floor-mounted.
5.2 Plumbing Connections
- Wrap Teflon tape around the threaded connections of the T&P relief valve at least 15 times to ensure a watertight seal.
- Install the T&P relief valve into the designated opening on the top of the water heater. Tighten securely.
- Attach the hose connector to the T&P relief valve.
- Plug the drain pipe tightly onto the hose connector. The drain pipe should lead to an appropriate drainage point.
- Connect the hot water outlet pipe (red ring) to your hot water tapping.
- Connect the cold water inlet pipe (blue ring) to your cold water supply.
5.3 Filling the Heater
CAUTION: DO NOT supply power to the water heater until it is filled with water.
- Open the supply valve for the water heater to allow it to fill with water.
- Open the hot water tap(s) supplied by the water heater to purge air out of the system. Once a steady stream of water flows from the tap, indicating all air is purged, close the hot water tap.
- Visually check all connections for any leaks. Address any leaks before proceeding.
5.4 Electrical Connection
- Ensure the water heater is completely filled with water as described above.
- Plug the power cord into a properly grounded 120V (AC) outlet with a dedicated 15 AMP circuit breaker.

7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and efficient operation of your water heater.
- T&P Valve Check: Periodically check the T&P relief valve to ensure it is not obstructed and is functioning correctly. Refer to the T&P valve manufacturer's instructions for specific testing procedures.
- Drainage: If the unit is to be left unused for an extended period or in an area subject to freezing temperatures, drain the tank completely to prevent damage.
- Magnesium Rod: The built-in magnesium rod helps protect the tank from corrosion. Its lifespan depends on water quality. Consult a qualified technician for inspection and replacement if necessary.
- Cleaning: Clean the exterior of the unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your MIZUDO water heater, please refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Hot Water:
- Check if the unit is plugged in and the power outlet is active.
- Verify the circuit breaker has not tripped.
- Ensure the temperature setting is not set to 'OFF' or too low.
- Confirm the water supply valve is fully open.
- Water Not Hot Enough:
- Adjust the temperature control knob to a higher setting.
- Allow sufficient time for the water to heat up, especially after initial fill or heavy use.
- Leaking:
- Check all plumbing connections for tightness.
- Inspect the T&P relief valve for proper installation and function. A small amount of discharge from the T&P valve is normal during heating cycles; however, continuous or excessive leaking may indicate an issue.
- Unusual Noises:
- Minor noises during heating are normal. Loud or persistent noises may indicate sediment buildup. Consult a qualified technician.
