ABUS Bordon 6000/90 Folding Bike Lock Instruction Manual

This manual provides essential instructions for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your ABUS Bordon 6000/90 Folding Bike Lock.

1. Product Overview

The ABUS Bordon 6000/90 Folding Bike Lock offers a robust security solution for bicycles. It features a compact, foldable design for easy transport and storage. The lock is constructed with resilient 5mm steel bars linked by special rivets, providing a balance of strength and flexibility. An extra-soft, two-component coating on the bars and a silicone cover on the lock body protect your bicycle's paintwork from scratches and abrasion. The high-quality cylinder is designed to resist manipulation attempts such as picking, pulling, and drilling.

2. Setup: Mounting the Lock Holder

The ABUS Bordon 6000/90 comes with an SH holder for convenient transport on your bicycle. This holder can be mounted in two ways:

  1. Bottle Cage Mounting: Utilize the existing bottle cage mounts on your bicycle frame. Secure the holder using the provided screws.
  2. Velcro Strap Mounting: If your bicycle does not have bottle cage mounts, or if they are occupied, use the included Velcro straps to attach the holder to a suitable frame tube. Ensure the straps are tightened securely to prevent wobbling during rides.

Once the holder is installed, slide the folded lock into the holder until it clicks into place. Ensure the lock is firmly seated before riding.

3. Operating the Lock

3.1 Unfolding and Locking

  1. Remove the folded lock from its holder.
  2. Insert the key into the lock cylinder and turn it to unlock the mechanism.
  3. Carefully unfold the steel bars to create a loop large enough to secure your bicycle to a fixed object (e.g., a bike rack, lamppost). Ensure the lock passes through the bicycle frame and at least one wheel.
  4. Bring the two ends of the lock together and push the locking mechanism until it clicks securely. Remove the key.

  2. Separate the two ends of the lock and carefully fold the steel bars back into their compact form.
  3. Place the folded lock back into its SH holder on your bicycle.

3.3 Key Management

Your ABUS Bordon 6000/90 lock comes with a unique ABUS Plus Code Card. This card contains a code that is essential for ordering replacement keys if yours are lost. Keep this card in a safe place, separate from your keys, and do not share the code publicly.

4. Maintenance

  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of lock lubricant (e.g., ABUS lock spray or a graphite-based lubricant) into the keyhole and the folding joints. This helps maintain smooth operation and prevents corrosion. Avoid using oil-based lubricants as they can attract dirt.
  • Cleaning: Wipe down the steel bars and silicone coating with a damp cloth to remove dirt and grime. Avoid harsh chemicals that could damage the protective coating.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the lock in a dry environment to prevent rust and maintain its functionality.

5. Troubleshooting

  • Lock mechanism feels stiff: This is often resolved by applying lock lubricant to the cylinder and folding joints. Ensure the lubricant is specifically designed for locks.
  • Key not turning smoothly: Check the keyhole for any debris. If clear, apply lock lubricant. If the issue persists, the key might be damaged or worn. Refer to your ABUS Plus Code Card for key replacement.
  • Mount wobbles on the frame: Ensure the mounting screws (for bottle cage mounts) or Velcro straps are tightened securely. For Velcro mounts, consider adding additional straps or zip ties for enhanced stability if needed.
