Before You Begin:
- Turn OFF Power: Locate the circuit breaker or fuse that controls the light switch you are replacing and turn it OFF. Verify power is off by attempting to turn on the light.
- Remove Old Switch: Carefully remove the existing wallplate and unscrew the old switch from the wallbox. Disconnect the wires from the old switch, noting their connections.
Wiring Instructions:
The DSL06 dimmer is designed for both single-pole (one location) and 3-way (two locations) installations. It does not require a neutral wire.
Single-Pole Installation:
In a single-pole setup, the dimmer controls the light from one location.
- Connect the LINE (hot) wire from the electrical box to one of the dimmer's screw terminals.
- Connect the LOAD wire (going to the light fixture) to the other dimmer screw terminal.
- Connect the GROUND wire (bare copper or green) from the electrical box to the dimmer's green ground screw.
- Ensure all connections are secure using wire nuts.
3-Way Installation:
For 3-way control, the DSL06 dimmer must be paired with a standard 3-way switch (sold separately). The dimmer is installed in one location, and the 3-way switch in the other.
- Identify the COMMON wire from the 3-way switch. This is typically connected to a darker colored screw terminal.
- Connect the COMMON wire from the electrical box to the appropriate terminal on the DSL06 dimmer (refer to the wiring diagram provided with the product for specific terminal identification).
- Connect the two TRAVELER wires between the DSL06 dimmer and the 3-way switch.
- Connect the LOAD wire from the light fixture to the remaining terminal on the DSL06 dimmer.
- Connect the GROUND wire from the electrical box to the dimmer's green ground screw.
- Ensure all connections are secure.
Finishing Installation:
- Carefully push the wired dimmer into the wallbox.
