CRESSI Z2S (DN455050)

Cressi Z2S Adult Frameless Diving Mask User Manual

Model: Z2S (DN455050)

1. Product Overview

The Cressi Z2S is a frameless diving mask designed for adults, featuring a low internal volume and a wide field of view. Its construction utilizes a silicone skirt assembled directly over a single tempered glass lens, ensuring durability and a watertight seal. This design contributes to its lightweight nature, making it suitable for various water activities including freediving, spearfishing, snorkeling, and scuba diving.

The mask incorporates tiltable buckles for easy strap adjustment, with an anchoring system that prevents deformation of the silicone skirt during use. Special UV420 coated lenses are available in some models, offering protection against harmful High Energy Visible (HEV) light and enhancing underwater visibility by improving color definition.

2. Setup and Fitting

2.1 Initial Preparation

Before first use, it is recommended to clean the inside of the mask lens to remove any manufacturing residue that may cause fogging. Apply a small amount of non-abrasive toothpaste or a commercial mask defogger to the dry lens, rub gently, then rinse thoroughly with fresh water.

2.2 Mask Fit Test

To ensure a proper seal, place the mask on your face without using the strap. Inhale gently through your nose. The mask should suction to your face and stay in place without holding it. If air leaks in, adjust the mask position or consider if the mask shape is suitable for your face.

2.3 Strap Adjustment

Once a good fit is confirmed, place the strap over the back of your head. Use the quick-adjust buckles on the sides of the mask to tighten the strap. The strap should be snug enough to hold the mask in place without being overly tight, which can cause discomfort and leaks. The buckles are designed for easy, one-handed adjustment.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Pre-Dive Preparation

Before each use, apply an anti-fog solution or saliva to the inside of the lens and rinse lightly with water. This helps prevent fogging during your dive or snorkel session.

3.2 Donning the Mask

Hold the mask by the frame and pull the strap over your head. Position the skirt comfortably on your face, ensuring no hair is caught under the seal. The strap should rest on the crown of your head, not too high or too low on your neck.

3.3 Mask Clearing

If water enters the mask, tilt your head slightly upwards, press the top of the mask frame against your forehead, and exhale gently through your nose. The exhaled air will push the water out from the bottom of the mask.

3.4 Equalization

When descending, pressure builds on the mask. To equalize this pressure, gently exhale a small amount of air through your nose into the mask. This prevents mask squeeze and discomfort.

4. Maintenance and Care

4.1 Cleaning

After each use, rinse your mask thoroughly with fresh, clean water. This removes salt, chlorine, and other residues that can degrade the silicone and lens over time. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

4.2 Drying

Allow the mask to air dry completely in a shaded area. Direct sunlight can cause the silicone to degrade and discolor.

4.3 Storage

Store the mask in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. It is recommended to store it in its original protective case or a dedicated mask box to prevent scratches and damage to the lens and skirt.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Mask Leaks

  • Hair under skirt: Ensure no hair is trapped between your face and the silicone skirt.
  • Strap too tight: Overtightening the strap can distort the skirt and cause leaks. Loosen the strap slightly.
  • Improper fit: Re-evaluate the mask's fit on your face. If it doesn't seal properly during the dry fit test, it may not be the right shape for you.
  • Facial hair: Beards or mustaches can break the seal. Apply a thin layer of silicone grease or petroleum jelly to the facial hair area where the mask skirt rests.

5.2 Mask Fogging

  • New mask residue: Perform initial lens cleaning as described in Section 2.1.
  • Insufficient anti-fog: Apply a fresh layer of anti-fog solution or saliva before each use.
  • Temperature difference: Fogging can occur due to temperature differences between your face and the water. Ensure proper anti-fog application.
