Safety Information
- WARNING: Never look directly at the sun or any bright light source through your binoculars. This can cause severe and permanent eye damage.
- Keep binoculars out of reach of small children to prevent accidental damage or misuse.
- Avoid dropping the binoculars, as this can damage the internal optical components.
- Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the binoculars. This will void the warranty and may cause damage.
Setup
1. Attaching the Neck Strap
Thread the ends of the neck strap through the strap lugs on the sides of the binocular body. Secure the strap according to the instructions provided with the strap. Ensure it is firmly attached before letting the binoculars hang freely.

2. Adjusting Interpupillary Distance (IPD)
The interpupillary distance is the distance between the centers of your pupils. To adjust, hold the binoculars with both hands and look through them. Move the two halves of the binoculars closer together or further apart until you see a single, clear circular field of view. This adjustment ensures both eyes are looking through the optical centers.
3. Adjusting Eyecups
Your Bushnell Explorer 8x42 Binoculars feature twist-up eyecups. If you wear eyeglasses, twist the eyecups down to their lowest position. This allows your eyes to be closer to the eyepiece lenses, providing a full field of view. If you do not wear eyeglasses, twist the eyecups up to their highest position for comfortable viewing.
4. Focusing
- Center Focus Wheel: Look through the binoculars at a distant object. Rotate the central focus wheel (located between the two barrels) until the image in the left eyepiece is sharp and clear.
- Diopter Adjustment: Without changing the central focus wheel, close your left eye and look through the right eyepiece. Rotate the diopter adjustment ring (located on the right eyepiece) until the image is sharp and clear.
- Once both adjustments are made, your binoculars are set for your eyes. For subsequent viewing, you will only need to use the central focus wheel to adjust for different distances.

Operating Your Binoculars
After completing the setup, your binoculars are ready for use. Simply raise them to your eyes and use the central focus wheel to bring your desired subject into sharp focus. The 8x magnification provides a clear view of distant objects, while the 42mm objective lenses gather ample light for bright images.
Recommended Uses
- Hiking: Observe wildlife and distant landscapes.
- Hunting: Spot game from a distance.
- Bird Watching: Identify various bird species in their natural habitat.
- Travel: Enhance sightseeing and exploration.
Maintenance
Cleaning Lenses
When cleaning the lenses, use only the provided lens cloth or a soft, lint-free cloth. Gently wipe the lens surface to remove dust or smudges. For stubborn dirt, a small amount of lens cleaning fluid designed for optics can be applied to the cloth, not directly to the lens. Avoid using abrasive cloths, paper towels, or harsh chemicals, as these can scratch the lens coatings.
Storage
Store your binoculars in a cool, dry place when not in use. Always keep the lens covers on to protect the objective and eyepiece lenses from dust and scratches. The included carrying case provides additional protection during storage and transport.
Waterproof and Fogproof Care
These binoculars are IPX7 waterproof, meaning they can withstand submersion in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. While designed for rugged conditions, it is recommended to wipe them dry after exposure to water. The fogproof construction prevents internal fogging due to temperature changes, but proper storage helps maintain this feature.
Troubleshooting
- Blurry Image: Ensure both the central focus wheel and the diopter adjustment ring are correctly set for your eyes and the distance to the object. Refer to the "Focusing" section.
- Double Image: Adjust the interpupillary distance (IPD) by moving the binocular barrels closer or further apart until a single, circular field of view is achieved. Refer to the "Adjusting Interpupillary Distance" section.
- Limited Field of View (Black Rings): If you wear eyeglasses, ensure the eyecups are twisted down. If not, ensure they are twisted up to the correct position for comfortable viewing.
- Fogging: While the binoculars are fogproof, extreme temperature changes can sometimes cause temporary external condensation. Allow the binoculars to acclimate to the ambient temperature, or gently wipe the exterior lenses with a cleaning cloth. Internal fogging indicates a potential seal issue; contact support if this occurs.
