Setup
1. Initial Winding
Your Bauhaus Aviation Tornado watch features an automatic movement. While it self-winds with wrist motion, it is recommended to manually wind the watch upon first use or after it has stopped due to inactivity.
- Ensure the crown is in position 0 (fully pushed in).
- Turn the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will provide sufficient power reserve to start the watch.
2. Setting the Time and Date
To set the time and date, follow these steps:
- Setting the Date: Pull the crown out to position 1. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement. If the current time falls within this period, first set the time outside this range, then set the date, and finally reset the correct time.
- Setting the Time: Pull the crown out to position 2. Turn the crown to move the hour and minute hands. Continue turning until the correct time is displayed, paying attention to the 24-hour sub-dial at 9 o'clock to distinguish between AM and PM.
- Once the time and date are set, push the crown back into position 0 (fully pushed in) to ensure water resistance.

3. Adjusting the Leather Strap
The watch comes with a handmade leather strap and a pin buckle. Adjust the strap to a comfortable fit on your wrist, ensuring it is not too tight or too loose.
Operating the Watch
Automatic Movement
The Bauhaus Aviation Tornado watch is powered by a Japanese automatic movement (Caliber 8217). This movement is self-winding, meaning it gains power from the natural motion of your wrist. When worn regularly, the watch will maintain its power reserve. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it may stop and require manual winding as described in the "Initial Winding" section.
24-Hour Display
The watch features a 24-hour sub-dial located at the 9 o'clock position. This sub-dial indicates whether the main time display is showing AM or PM, which is crucial for accurate date setting and for users who prefer a 24-hour time format.
Luminous Elements
The hands and Arabic numerals on the dial are coated with Superluminova, providing luminescence in low-light conditions. Exposure to light (natural or artificial) charges these elements, allowing them to glow in the dark.

Maintenance
Cleaning
To maintain the appearance of your watch, wipe the case and crystal with a soft, dry cloth. For the leather strap, avoid excessive moisture and harsh chemicals.
Water Resistance (5 ATM)
Your watch is water resistant to 5 ATM (50 meters), tested according to DIN standard 8310. This means it is suitable for everyday use, such as accidental splashes, rain, and showering. However, it is not suitable for swimming, diving, or prolonged water immersion. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in to maintain water resistance.
Leather Strap Care
The handmade leather strap is susceptible to wear and tear from moisture, sweat, and direct sunlight. To prolong its life:
- Avoid prolonged exposure to water.
- Clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth if necessary, then allow to air dry completely.
- Avoid direct contact with cosmetics, perfumes, and chemical cleaning agents.
Environmental Factors
Avoid exposing your watch to extreme temperatures (hot or cold) or strong magnetic fields, as these can affect the accuracy and longevity of the movement.
Troubleshooting
- Watch Not Running: If the watch has stopped, it may have run out of power reserve. Manually wind the watch by turning the crown clockwise 20-30 times while it is in position 0. If the watch still does not start, gently shake it to engage the rotor.
- Time Inaccuracy: Automatic watches can have slight variations in accuracy. If the watch is consistently running too fast or too slow beyond acceptable limits (typically +/- 20-40 seconds per day for this type of movement), it may require adjustment by a professional watchmaker. Ensure the watch is fully wound.
- Date Not Changing: Ensure the time is set correctly, especially distinguishing between AM and PM using the 24-hour sub-dial. The date typically changes around midnight. If the date is stuck, try manually advancing the time past midnight to see if it engages. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM.
- Water Inside the Watch: If you notice condensation or water inside the watch, immediately take it to a qualified watchmaker for inspection and repair to prevent further damage to the movement.
