4. Setup

4.1 Assembling the Stand

Follow the instructions provided with the machine stand to assemble it. Ensure all screws are tightened securely for stability.

4.2 Connecting Power and Data

  1. Connect the power cord to the plotter and then to a grounded electrical outlet.
  2. For wired connection, connect the USB cable from the plotter to your computer.
  3. For wireless connection, install the Wireless LAN module and configure network settings via the plotter's control panel.

4.3 Installing Software

Install Graphtec Studio 2 and Cutting Master 5 on your computer. Refer to the respective software manuals for detailed installation instructions. Ensure your computer meets the minimum system requirements.

4.4 Loading Media

  1. Place the roll of media onto the roll media holder.
  2. Feed the media through the plotter, aligning it with the guides.
  3. Engage the pressure adjustable push rollers to secure the media. The Media Set Assist Function helps in proper alignment.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Control Panel Overview

The plotter features a touch screen and mechanical keys for navigation and operation. Familiarize yourself with the menu structure for various settings.

5.2 Blade Installation and Adjustment

  1. Carefully insert the CB09UB blade into the blade holder.
  2. Adjust the blade extension as needed for the material thickness. A general rule is to extend the blade just enough to cut through the material and slightly score the backing.
  3. Insert the blade holder into the tool carriage.

5.3 Basic Cutting Operation

  1. Design your graphic in Graphtec Studio 2 or your preferred design software using the Cutting Master 5 plug-in.
  2. Send the cutting data to the plotter.
  3. On the plotter's control panel, select the appropriate cutting conditions (force, speed). The CE8000-60 Plus offers 450 gf cutting force and 39 inches/second cutting speed.
  4. Initiate the cutting process.

5.4 Using the ARMS System (Advanced Registration Mark Sensing)

The ARMS system allows for precise contour cutting of pre-printed graphics. The optical sensor detects registration marks on the media, compensating for distortions and ensuring accurate alignment between print and cut.

  1. Print your design with registration marks from your design software.
  2. Load the printed media into the plotter.
  3. Select the ARMS function from the plotter's menu. The sensor will scan the registration marks.
  4. Once marks are detected, proceed with the cutting operation.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

  • Regularly clean the plotter's exterior with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove dust and debris from the cutting area and sensor.
  • Clean the grit rollers and pinch rollers to ensure proper media feeding.

6.2 Blade Replacement

Replace the cutting blade when you notice a decrease in cutting quality or when the blade appears dull or chipped. Refer to the Cutting Blade Manual for detailed instructions on safe blade replacement.

6.3 Firmware Updates

Periodically check the Graphtec website for integrated firmware updates. Keeping your plotter's firmware up-to-date ensures optimal performance and access to new features.

7. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter. For more complex problems, contact Graphtec support.

  • Poor Cutting Quality: Check blade extension, blade sharpness, cutting force settings, and ensure the media is loaded correctly.
  • Media Feeding Problems: Verify that the pinch rollers are engaged properly and that the media is aligned straight. Clean the grit rollers if necessary.
  • ARMS System Errors: Ensure registration marks are clearly printed, not smudged, and within the detectable area. Check lighting conditions.
  • Connectivity Issues: For USB, ensure the cable is securely connected and drivers are installed. For Wireless LAN, verify network settings and signal strength.
  • Plotter Not Responding: Power cycle the plotter and your computer. Check all cable connections.
