4. Setup and Assembly

The VERPAL YL9000-1 arrives mostly assembled. Follow these steps for initial setup:

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the wheelchair from its packaging.
  2. Unfolding: Gently unfold the wheelchair until it clicks into its fully open position. Ensure all locking mechanisms are engaged.
  3. Joystick Installation: Attach the joystick controller to the desired armrest (left or right) and secure it. Connect the joystick cable to the corresponding port on the wheelchair.
  4. Battery Connection: Ensure the battery is securely placed and connected.

Joystick Functions:

  • Power On/Off: Press the power button (2) to turn the wheelchair on or off.
  • Speed Display: The display (1) shows the current speed setting.
  • Speed Adjustment: Use the '+' (6) and '-' (5) buttons to increase or decrease the speed. Start at the lowest speed setting until comfortable.
  • Movement: Gently push the joystick forward to move forward, backward to move in reverse, and left or right to turn. The wheelchair will stop automatically when the joystick is released.
  • Horn: Press the horn button (3) to sound the horn.
  • Battery Display: The battery indicator (4) shows the remaining battery charge.

Manual Mode:

To operate the wheelchair manually, disengage the motors by pushing the motor engagement levers on the rear wheels to the 'disengaged' position. This allows a caregiver to push the wheelchair.

6. Charging the Battery

Proper battery charging ensures optimal performance and longevity.

  1. Connect Charger: Plug the charger into the charging port on the wheelchair.
  2. Connect to Power: Plug the charger into a standard electrical outlet.
