4. Setup and Battery Installation

Before using your multimeter, you need to install the included AAA batteries.

  1. Ensure the multimeter is turned OFF.
  2. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the multimeter.
  3. Use a screwdriver to open the battery compartment cover.
  4. Insert the two 1.5V AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
  5. Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw.

Connecting Test Leads:

  • Insert the black test lead into the COM (Common) jack.
  • For most measurements (voltage, resistance, diode, continuity, small currents), insert the red test lead into the VΩmA jack.
  • For measuring large DC currents (up to 10A), insert the red test lead into the 10A jack.

5. Operating Instructions

This section details how to use your multimeter for various measurements.

General Operation

  • Power On/Off: Rotate the Function/Range Selection Switch from OFF to any desired measurement function to turn on the multimeter. Rotate back to OFF to turn it off.
  • Backlight: Press the Backlight Button (sun icon) to illuminate the LCD display for better visibility in low-light conditions. Press again to turn off.
  • Data Hold: Press the HOLD Button to freeze the current reading on the display. This is useful when taking measurements in hard-to-reach areas. Press again to release the hold.

Measurement Modes

Always ensure the correct test lead connections and select the appropriate function on the rotary switch before taking measurements.

AC/DC Voltage Measurement (V~ / V--)

1. Connect the black lead to COM and the red lead to VΩmA.
2. Rotate the switch to the desired AC Voltage (V~) or DC Voltage (V--) range.
3. Connect the test probes across the component or circuit to be measured.

DC Current Measurement (A--)

1. Connect the black lead to COM.
2. For currents up to 200mA, connect the red lead to VΩmA. For currents up to 10A, connect the red lead to 10A.
3. Rotate the switch to the appropriate DC Current (A--) range.
4. Connect the multimeter in series with the circuit to measure current.

Note: This meter cannot test AC Current.

Resistance Measurement (Ω)

1. Connect the black lead to COM and the red lead to VΩmA.
2. Rotate the switch to the desired Resistance (Ω) range.
3. Ensure the circuit is de-energized before connecting the probes across the resistor or component.

Continuity Test (speaker icon)

1. Connect the black lead to COM and the red lead to VΩmA.
2. Rotate the switch to the Continuity (speaker icon) position.
3. Touch the probes to the two points you want to test. A continuous beep indicates a good connection (low resistance).

Diode Test (diode icon)

1. Connect the black lead to COM and the red lead to VΩmA.
2. Rotate the switch to the Diode (diode icon) position.
3. Connect the red probe to the anode and the black probe to the cathode of the diode. The display will show the forward voltage drop. Reverse the probes to check for open circuit (OL) in reverse bias.

Battery Check (BATT)

1. Connect the black lead to COM and the red lead to VΩmA.
2. Rotate the switch to the BATT position (1.5V or 9V).
3. Connect the red probe to the positive terminal and the black probe to the negative terminal of the battery. The display will show the battery voltage.

6. Safety Information

Your Assark Digital Multimeter is designed with safety features. Always adhere to safety precautions when working with electrical circuits.

  • Overload Protection: The multimeter features two built-in fuses (250mA, 250V and 10A, 250V) to provide overload protection across all ranges. This helps prevent damage to the meter in case of accidental overcurrent.
  • Rubber Holster: The thick rubber cover provides good electrical insulation and absorbs impact, enhancing the durability and safety of the device.
  • Always disconnect power to the circuit before making resistance, continuity, or diode measurements.
  • Do not attempt to measure voltages or currents exceeding the specified maximum ratings of the multimeter.
  • Ensure test leads are in good condition and properly connected before use.
