4. Operating Instructions
4.1. Powering On/Off
- To power on the device, press the Power button (usually marked with a circle and vertical line).
- To power off, press and hold the Power button for a few seconds until the display turns off. The device also features an automatic shutdown function after 10 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life. This can typically be disabled or enabled via specific button combinations (refer to on-screen prompts if available).
4.2. Taking Measurements
- Ensure a thermocouple probe is securely connected.
- Place the tip of the probe into or onto the substance/area you wish to measure.
- The temperature reading will be displayed on the screen. The sampling rate is approximately 1 time per second.
4.3. Data Locking (MAX/MIN/AVG/HOLD)
The device provides functions to capture and review specific data points:
- Press the MAX button to display the maximum temperature recorded since the device was powered on or the function was reset.
- Press the MIN button to display the minimum temperature recorded.
- Press the HOLD button to freeze the current temperature reading on the display. Press again to release.
- The average (AVG) value may be accessible through a combination of buttons or a dedicated button, depending on the model. Consult the on-screen interface for specific instructions.
4.4. Setting Alarm Thresholds
To set custom high and low temperature alarms:
- Access the alarm setting mode (typically by pressing a dedicated alarm button or a combination of buttons like SET or MODE).
- Use the navigation buttons (e.g., UP/DOWN or +/-) to adjust the upper limit (High Alarm) and lower limit (Low Alarm) values. Default values are 1300β for High Alarm and -200β for Low Alarm.
- Confirm your settings (often by pressing the SET or ENTER button).
- When the measured temperature exceeds the upper limit or falls below the lower limit, the screen's red backlight will activate as an alert.
4.5. Temperature Compensation (ADJ)
To adjust for minor temperature variances:
- Enter the ADJ temperature compensation mode (refer to the device's on-screen menu or specific button press sequence).
- Adjust the compensation value within the range of -9 to +9β to fine-tune readings.
- Save the setting.
5. Maintenance
5.1. Cleaning
- Wipe the device's exterior with a soft, dry cloth.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Ensure the probe is clean before and after each use, especially when measuring different substances.
5.2. Storage
- When not in use for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and damage to the device.
- Store the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Storage Environment: -10 to 50 β, maximum relative humidity of 70% (with battery removed).
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not power on. | Batteries are dead or incorrectly installed. | Replace batteries with new 1.5V AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity. |
| Inaccurate temperature readings. |
|
|
| Alarm backlight is constantly on. | Measured temperature is outside set alarm thresholds. | Adjust the upper and lower alarm limits to suit your measurement range, or move the probe to an area within the acceptable temperature range. |
| Display shows "APO" or turns off unexpectedly. | Automatic Power Off (APO) function activated due to inactivity. | Press the power button to turn the device back on. If frequent, consider disabling APO if the model allows. |
