5. Powering On/Off
To power on your X-Terra Elite, press and hold the Power On/Off button (typically located on the top left of the control unit) until the display illuminates and you hear the startup tone. To power off, press and hold the same button until the display turns off.
6. Operating Modes
The X-Terra Elite offers multiple pre-programmed search modes optimized for different environments:
- Park Mode (1 & 2): Ideal for high-trash areas like parks and recreational grounds.
- Field Mode (1 & 2): Suitable for open fields, agricultural land, and general relic hunting.
- Beach Mode (1 & 2): Optimized for wet sand and saltwater conditions, effectively handling mineralization.
To switch between modes, press the 'Detect Mode' button on the control unit. Experiment with different modes to find the best performance for your specific hunting location.

7. Multi-IQ Technology
MINELAB's revolutionary Multi-IQ technology allows the X-Terra Elite to operate on multiple frequencies simultaneously. This means the detector is effectively running as several detectors at once, providing superior target identification and depth across all ground types, including highly mineralized soils and saltwater beaches. This advanced capability ensures that nothing goes undiscovered, regardless of the terrain.

8. Adjusting Settings
Optimize your detecting experience by adjusting key settings:
- Sensitivity: Use the '+' and '-' buttons to adjust sensitivity. Higher sensitivity increases detection depth but may also pick up more ground noise.
- Volume: Adjust the audio volume to a comfortable level using the dedicated volume controls.
- Tones: The X-Terra Elite offers all-tone audio, providing different pitch responses for various target IDs. This helps in distinguishing targets before digging.
- Recovery Speed: This setting determines how quickly the detector recovers after detecting a target. A faster recovery speed is beneficial in trashy areas to separate targets.
9. Noise Cancel
Noise Cancel helps to reduce electromagnetic interference from external sources, ensuring stable operation and clearer target signals. To perform a Noise Cancel:
- Ensure the search coil is away from any metal objects and the ground.
- Access the Noise Cancel function through the settings menu (refer to the control box diagram for button location).
- Initiate the Noise Cancel process. The detector will automatically scan for the quietest operating channel.
- Wait for the process to complete. The display will indicate when Noise Cancel is finished.
10. Ground Balance
Ground Balancing is crucial for eliminating false signals caused by ground mineralization. The X-Terra Elite offers both automatic and manual ground balance options.
- Automatic Ground Balance: Hold the search coil parallel to the ground and pump it up and down from approximately 1 to 6 inches above the surface. The detector will automatically adjust to the ground conditions.
- Manual Ground Balance: For precise control, you can manually adjust the ground balance setting through the menu. This is often preferred by experienced users in challenging ground.
11. Pinpointing
Once a target is detected, use the Pinpoint function to accurately locate its position before digging. This minimizes excavation size and potential damage to the target.
- Center the search coil over the target area.
- Press the 'Pinpoint/Detect' button.
- Slowly move the coil in a cross-pattern over the target. The audio tone will peak directly over the center of the target.
- Release the 'Pinpoint/Detect' button to return to normal detection mode.
12. Waterproof Operation
The X-Terra Elite is fully waterproof and submersible up to 16 ft (5 m), making it suitable for beach, river, and shallow water detecting. Ensure all connections are secure before submerging the detector.
- Always ensure the coil cable connector is fully tightened.
- Do not submerge the detector beyond 16 feet (5 meters).
- After use in saltwater, rinse the detector thoroughly with fresh water.

13. High Performance Audio
The X-Terra Elite provides all-tone audio, allowing you to not only hear the presence of a target but also gauge its depth and size through variations in tone. The included ML85 Low Latency Wireless Headphones ensure clear and responsive audio feedback, enhancing your ability to interpret signals.

17. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your X-Terra Elite, try the following common solutions:
- No Power: Check battery charge. Ensure the battery is correctly inserted and the power button is pressed firmly.
- Erratic Signals/Ground Noise: Perform a Noise Cancel. Re-Ground Balance the detector. Reduce sensitivity. Move away from sources of electromagnetic interference (power lines, other electronics).
- No Target Audio: Check headphone connection or wireless pairing. Ensure volume is turned up.
- Poor Depth: Increase sensitivity. Ensure the search coil is parallel to the ground during sweeps.
- Coil Not Detecting: Check coil cable connection. Ensure the coil is not damaged.
