5.2 Connecting Ethernet Cables

The surge protector has two RJ45 ports: "LINE" and "EQUIP".

1. Connect the incoming Ethernet cable (from the network switch, router, or other source) to the port labeled "LINE".
2. Connect an Ethernet cable from the port labeled "EQUIP" to the device you wish to protect (e.g., IP camera, wireless access point, VoIP phone).
3. Ensure all RJ45 connections are secure and fully seated.

5.3 Grounding the Unit

Proper grounding is critical for the effective operation of the surge protector.

1. Locate the grounding terminal on the surge protector (typically a screw terminal).
2. Connect a suitable grounding wire (not included) from this terminal to a reliable earth ground. This could be a dedicated ground rod, a building's main grounding busbar, or another approved grounding point.
3. Ensure the grounding connection is tight and corrosion-free.

6. Operating Instructions

The EverStar XG-Lit surge protector operates passively and requires no user interaction once installed. It continuously monitors the Ethernet line for transient voltage spikes and diverts excess energy to ground, protecting connected equipment. Ensure that the connected PoE source provides power within the PoE++ (100W) specification if Power over Ethernet is being utilized.

7. Maintenance

• Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the unit and its connections for any signs of physical damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
• Cleaning: If necessary, gently clean the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
• Grounding Check: Verify that the grounding connection remains secure and effective.
• Post-Surge Event: After a significant lightning strike or power surge in the vicinity, it is recommended to inspect the surge protector for any signs of damage. While designed to withstand multiple surges, extreme events can sometimes compromise components. If network connectivity issues arise after a surge, consider replacing the unit.

• No Network Connectivity:
  • Check all Ethernet cable connections to ensure they are fully seated in both the "LINE" and "EQUIP" ports, and to the connected devices.
  • Verify that the incoming Ethernet cable from the network source is functional by testing it directly with the protected device (bypassing the surge protector).
  • Ensure the grounding connection is secure.
  • If connectivity is restored when bypassing the surge protector, the unit may be damaged and require replacement.
• PoE Not Functioning:
  • Confirm that your PoE source is active and providing power.
  • Ensure the connected device is PoE compatible and within the PoE++ (100W) power budget.
  • Test the PoE functionality by connecting the device directly to the PoE source, bypassing the surge protector.
• Physical Damage: If the unit shows signs of physical damage (e.g., cracks, burn marks), discontinue use immediately and replace it.
