Setup and Pairing
1. Download the App
Download the 'Tuya Smart' or 'Smart Life' app from your mobile device's app store (available for iOS and Android). You can also visit the official website: smartapp.tuya.com/smartlife.
2. Connect to Wi-Fi
Ensure your Wi-Fi network is 2.4GHz. The sensor does not support 5GHz Wi-Fi. For optimal performance, maintain an effective distance of approximately 20 meters (100 feet) between the sensor and your Wi-Fi router.
3. Add Device
- Open the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app and register/log in to your account.
- Tap the '+' icon in the top right corner to add a new device.
- Select 'Security & Video Surveillance' > 'Contact Sensor (Wi-Fi)' or search for 'Door Sensor'.
- Follow the in-app instructions to put the sensor into pairing mode (usually by pressing and holding a button on the sensor until an indicator light flashes).
- Confirm your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
- Wait for the app to discover and connect to the sensor. Once connected, you can rename the device and assign it to a specific room.

Operation
1. App Notifications
Once paired, the sensor will send real-time notifications to your smartphone via the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app whenever the monitored door or window is opened or closed. This allows you to stay informed about your home's security status from anywhere.

Figure 6: An example of an app notification alert received when the sensor detects an open state.
2. Home Automation
Leverage the smart automation features within the Tuya Smart/Smart Life app or through integrated platforms like Alexa. You can create custom routines, such as:
- Automatically turning on smart lights when a door opens.
- Triggering an alarm or sending an alert to other smart devices.
Note: A delay of 6-8 seconds may occur when the sensor transitions from a hibernation state to an active state for certain automation triggers.

3. Voice Control
The sensor is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. After linking your Tuya Smart/Smart Life account to your voice assistant, you can use voice commands to check the status of your sensor.
- Example: "Alexa, is the front door closed?"

Maintenance
Battery Replacement
The Tuya Smart or Smart Life app will send a notification to your smartphone when the sensor's battery level is low. To ensure continuous operation and reliable monitoring, replace the two AAA batteries promptly when you receive this alert.
Troubleshooting
- Sensor Not Connecting to Wi-Fi:
Ensure your Wi-Fi network is 2.4GHz, as the sensor does not support 5GHz. Verify the sensor is within approximately 20 meters (100 feet) of your router. Try resetting the sensor (refer to app instructions for specific reset procedures) and attempting the pairing process again. - No Notifications Received:
Check the notification settings within the Tuya Smart/Smart Life app on your smartphone to ensure they are enabled. Verify that the app has the necessary permissions to send notifications in your phone's operating system settings. Ensure the app is running in the background. Some advanced notification features or continuous background operation might depend on specific app versions or subscription services, if applicable. - Sensor Not Responding to Open/Close:
Check the battery level in the app and replace batteries if low. Ensure the main sensor unit and the magnetic strip are correctly aligned and the gap between them is no more than 0.78 inches (2 cm) when the door/window is closed. Re-attach the sensor if it has shifted. - Overly Complex Setup:
If you find the setup process challenging, ensure you are following the in-app instructions precisely. Sometimes, a simple restart of your phone, router, and the sensor can resolve minor glitches.
