Product Overview

The D3V is a fully active desktop monitoring system designed for songwriters, producers, and music lovers who want to enjoy ADAM Audio sound quality as conveniently as possible. Available in white or black editions, the active monitors feature the iconic golden ribbon tweeter and stay true to ADAM Audio’s German industrial design heritage. Each active pair features 3.5” aluminum woofers and ferrite magnet system driven by 80 W amplifiers. The woofers are further complemented by dual-sided 3.5” passive radiators which allow the D3V to extend as low as 45 Hz. With 25 years’ experience working with ribbon tweeter technology, ADAM Audio has created a compact 1.5” D-ART (Desktop Accelerated Ribbon Tweeter) so D3V customers can enjoy the precise and unfatiguing high-frequency reproduction that their established monitoring systems are known for. The D3V features a USB-C input which means the monitoring system behaves as a digital output device when connected to a computer and negates the need for an additional audio interface for playback. This plug’n’play functionality extends to mobile devices so high-quality audio can be enjoyed without the compression or conversion normally associated with such connections. The D3V also features balanced ¼" TRS inputs for more traditional analogue audio applications. The backplate of the left speaker features a range of user-friendly switches to address the common acoustical issues arising from speaker placement, while the front panel includes a headphone socket and volume knob that doubles as a control for the audio input selection, muting and other functions. The D3V comes complete with detachable monitor stands that are angled at 15° toward the users’ ears. Additionally, there is a standard threaded 3/8” hole for microphone stand mounting on the underside of both monitors.

Setup

The ADAM Audio D3V monitoring system is designed for easy setup. Follow these steps to get your speakers ready for use.

Speaker Placement

The D3V monitors come with detachable stands that angle the speakers 15° towards your ears for optimal listening. You can also mount them on standard microphone stands using the 3/8” threaded hole on the underside of each monitor.

Connecting the Speakers

Connect the left and right speakers using the provided loudspeaker link cable. The left speaker acts as the main unit, housing the primary inputs and controls.

Power Connection

Connect the PSU and mains power cable to the left speaker's power input. Ensure the power source matches the speaker's requirements.

Audio Input Options

The D3V offers flexible audio input options:

• USB-C: For direct digital audio connection to computers and mobile devices. This provides plug-and-play functionality without needing an additional audio interface.
• Balanced 1/4" TRS: For traditional analog audio applications, allowing connection to audio interfaces or other professional audio equipment.

Front Panel Controls

The front panel of the left speaker features a multi-function volume knob and a headphone socket.

• Volume Knob: Controls the overall output volume.
• Push Functions (Volume Knob):
  • Press x1: Mute/Unmute speakers.
  • Press x2: Change input (toggles between Analog and USB).
  • Press x3: Swap channels (Left <-> Right).
  • Press & hold (2 sec.): Standby mode.
• Headphone Socket: Automatically takes over audio playback when headphones are connected, muting the speakers.

Back Panel Switches (Room Adaptation)

The backplate of the left speaker includes DSP-powered switches to adapt the sound to your listening environment. These switches help address common acoustical issues arising from speaker placement and room characteristics.

• Position: Adjusts bass response based on speaker placement (Stand, Wall, Corner).
• Desk: Optimizes low-mid and mid frequencies for small or large desk setups, or if no desk is used.
• Room: Adjusts treble response based on room acoustics (Treated, Moderate, Untreated).

• Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the speaker cabinets. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish. For grilles, a soft brush can be used to gently remove dust.
• Placement: Keep speakers away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive moisture. Ensure adequate ventilation around the units.
• Handling: Always handle the speakers with care. Avoid dropping them or subjecting them to strong impacts. When moving, ensure they are properly supported.
• Cables: Regularly check all cables for any signs of wear or damage. Replace frayed or damaged cables immediately to prevent performance issues or safety hazards.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your D3V speakers, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:

• No Sound/Standby Mode: The D3V features an auto-standby mode. If no audio signal is detected for a period, the speakers may enter standby. To re-activate, press the volume knob. For persistent issues, ensure the correct input (USB or Analog) is selected by double-pressing the volume knob.
• Crackling/Hissing Sound: Some users have reported occasional crackling or hissing, particularly when the PC comes out of sleep mode or randomly. This can sometimes be related to the USB connection or power supply.
  • Try rearranging power supplies or separating lines to reduce interference.
  • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected.
  • Consider updating the speaker firmware if available, as manufacturers often release updates to address such issues.
• Sound Quality Concerns: If the sound quality is not as expected, verify the room adaptation switches on the back panel are correctly configured for your speaker placement (Stand, Wall, Corner) and room acoustics (Treated, Moderate, Untreated).
