1. Introduction

The FASTCABLiNG 300M Outdoor PoE Extension Kit (Model 5540-01) is designed to extend Power over Ethernet (PoE) and data transmission distances beyond the standard 100-meter (328-foot) limit of Ethernet cabling. This kit enables reliable power and data delivery to PoE-compatible devices such as IP cameras and VoIP phones over extended distances, up to 1500 feet (500 meters) when multiple extenders are daisy-chained. Its robust IP67-rated waterproof and direct-burial design makes it ideal for outdoor and harsh environment installations.

3. Product Features

  • Extended Range: Achieve up to 1500ft continuous run by connecting the input ports of two PoE extenders (300 meters apart). Simply bury the Cat5e/Cat6 cable underground.
  • Fast Speeds: Support 10/100Mbps data rates, delivering fast and efficient network speeds for devices such as IP cameras, and VoIP phones.
  • PoE Power: Compliant with IEEE802.3af/at/bt standards, delivering up to 60W maximum power output when used with a 95W PoE injector.
  • Outdoor Use: IP67-rated waterproof, direct-burial enclosure; wide temperature range -10°C ~55°C (40°F~70°F). Note: Use a 27mm wrench to fasten the cable glands for a waterproof seal.
  • Quick Installation: Plug-and-play setup with no configuration. With a snap-fit enclosure, you can easily add or remove PoE extenders as needed.

4. Setup & Installation

The PoE Extender is designed for simple plug-and-play installation without requiring any complex configuration. It acts as a repeater, regenerating both power and data signals to extend the reach of your PoE network.

4.1. Understanding PoE Extender Ports

Each PoE Extender unit has an "IN" port (PoE Input) and an "OUT" port (PoE Output). Ensure correct connection to maintain signal integrity and power delivery.

4.2. Single Extender Setup (Up to 328ft / 100m)

For extending your PoE network up to 100 meters (328 feet) beyond the initial 100 meters from your PoE switch/NVR, you will use one PoE Extender unit.

  1. Connect PoE Source: Plug an Ethernet cable from your PoE Switch or NVR (PoE source) into the "IN" port of the PoE Extender.
  2. Connect PoE Device: Plug another Ethernet cable from the "OUT" port of the PoE Extender to your PoE-powered device (e.g., IP camera, VoIP phone).
  3. Secure Connections: Ensure all cable glands are securely fastened using a 27mm wrench to achieve the IP67 waterproof seal, especially for outdoor installations.

4.3. Daisy-Chaining Extenders (Up to 1500ft / 500m)

To achieve distances up to 1500 feet (500 meters), you can daisy-chain multiple PoE Extenders. Each extender adds approximately 100 meters (328 feet) to the total range.

  1. First Extender: Connect the PoE source to the "IN" port of the first PoE Extender.
  2. Connect Extenders: Connect an Ethernet cable from the "OUT" port of the first Extender to the "IN" port of the second Extender. Repeat this step for additional extenders as needed, ensuring each connection is secure and waterproof.
  3. Final Device: Connect the "OUT" port of the last PoE Extender in the chain to your PoE-powered device.

4.4. Physical Mounting Options

The PoE Extenders offer flexible mounting options for various installation scenarios.

  • Wall Mount: The units can be directly mounted to a wall or flat surface.
  • DIN Rail Mount: Compatible with standard DIN rails for industrial or structured cabling environments.
  • Snap and Combine: Multiple units can be snapped together for a compact installation.

4.5. Waterproofing and Cable Gland Fastening

For outdoor and direct-burial applications, it is critical to ensure the cable glands are properly tightened to maintain the IP67 waterproof rating. Use a 27mm wrench to securely fasten the glands around the Ethernet cables.

This video demonstrates the setup of the PoE Extender, including connecting to a PoE switch and an IP camera, and shows how to daisy-chain multiple units for extended range. It also highlights the IP67 waterproof feature and the importance of securing cable glands.

5. Operating Instructions

The FASTCABLiNG Outdoor PoE Extender is a plug-and-play device. Once connected correctly as per the installation instructions, it will automatically detect and extend the PoE power and data signals. No software configuration or additional power supply is required for the extender itself.

  • Power Indicators: The extender may feature LED indicators to show power and data link status. Refer to the product label for specific indicator meanings.
  • Automatic Negotiation: The extender automatically negotiates the appropriate power and data rates with connected PoE devices.

6. Maintenance

The PoE Extender is designed for durability and minimal maintenance, especially in outdoor environments.

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the cable connections and glands for any signs of wear, damage, or loosening, especially after extreme weather conditions.
  • Cleaning: If installed in a dusty or dirty environment, gently clean the exterior of the unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Temperature Range: The device is designed to operate within a wide temperature range of -10°C to 55°C (40°F to 70°F). Ensure it is not exposed to temperatures outside this range for prolonged periods.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your PoE Extension Kit, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power/Data to Device:
    • Verify that the PoE Switch/NVR is powered on and providing PoE. Check its status indicators.
    • Ensure all Ethernet cables are securely connected to the correct "IN" and "OUT" ports on the extender(s) and devices.
    • Check the integrity of the Ethernet cables for any damage or breaks.
    • Confirm that the connected device is PoE-compatible and within the power budget of your PoE source and extender(s).
  • Intermittent Connection:
    • Inspect cable connections for looseness. Re-tighten waterproof glands if necessary.
    • Ensure cable quality (Cat5e/Cat6) meets the requirements for the extended distance.
    • Check for electromagnetic interference (EMI) if cables are run near power lines or other sources of interference.
  • Reduced Performance (Slow Speed):
    • While the extender supports 10/100Mbps, ensure your network devices are not attempting to operate at Gigabit speeds if the extender is not designed for it (Model 5540-01 is 10/100Mbps).
    • Verify that the total cable length, including all extenders, does not exceed the maximum recommended distance (1500ft / 500m for daisy-chained units).
