3. Safety Information

WARNING: Installation should only be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with all local electrical codes and regulations. Disconnect power at the circuit breaker before installing or servicing the sensor.

  • Do not exceed the specified load capacity of the sensor.
  • Ensure proper grounding to prevent electrical shock.
  • Keep the device away from water and extreme temperatures.

4. Installation

4.1 Mounting Location

The QS-M9 is a surface-mounted sensor. For optimal performance, consider the following:

  • Recommended Mounting Height: 2.2 to 6 meters.
  • Detection Range: Up to 10 meters (360° coverage). Avoid placing the sensor near large metal objects or moving machinery that could interfere with microwave signals.
  • Ensure a clear line of sight for the desired detection area, although microwave sensors can detect through thin non-metallic materials like drywall or glass.

4.2 Wiring Diagram

Refer to the diagram below for correct wiring connections. Ensure power is disconnected before proceeding.

Quick Sense QS-M9 Wiring Diagram

Image: Detailed wiring diagram for the Quick Sense QS-M9 sensor, showing connections for L (Live), N (Neutral), L' (Switched Live Output), and 1-10V dimming output terminals. It also labels the Antenna Module, Day/Light Sensor, LED Indication, and DIP switch settings for Stand by dimming level, Stand by period, Day/Light Sensor, Hold Time, and Detection Range.

  1. Connect the Live (L) wire from the power supply to the 'L' terminal on the sensor.
  2. Connect the Neutral (N) wire from the power supply to the 'N' terminal on the sensor.
  3. Connect the Switched Live (L') output from the sensor to the Live input of your lighting fixture or controlled device.
  4. Connect the Neutral (N) wire from your lighting fixture or controlled device to the 'N' terminal on the sensor (or directly to the main neutral line).
  5. If using 1-10V dimming, connect the '+' and '-' terminals of the sensor's 1-10V output to the corresponding input on your dimmable LED driver.

5. Operation and Settings

The Quick Sense QS-M9 sensor features adjustable settings via DIP switches to customize its behavior. The DIP switches are located on the side of the unit.

Quick Sense QS-M9 DIP Switch Settings

Image: An illustration detailing the DIP switch panel on the Quick Sense QS-M9 sensor, explaining the functions of each set of switches: Detection Range, Hold Time, Daylight Sensor, Stand-by Period, and Stand-by Mode & Dimming Level.

5.1 DIP Switch Functions

Adjust the red switches to the desired positions according to the labels for each function:

  • Detection Range (Sensitivity): Adjusts the area within which motion is detected. This can be set with different combinations of DIP switches to precisely fit specific application requirements.
  • Hold Time (Time Delay): This is the duration the connected lamp remains at 100% brightness after motion is detected and then ceases. Settings typically range from 10 seconds to 30 minutes.
  • Daylight Sensor (LUX Setting): Determines the ambient light level at which the sensor will activate. For example, if set to 3 LUX, the sensor will only activate the light when the ambient light is below 3 LUX (i.e., dark conditions). Settings range from <3 LUX to 2000 LUX.
  • Stand-by Period: This defines the duration the light remains at a low output (dimmed level) after the Hold Time has expired, but before switching off completely in the prolonged absence of a person.
  • Stand-by Mode & Dimming Level: This setting defines the dimming percentage (e.g., 10%, 20%, 30%) for the Stand-by Period.

Refer to the specific markings on your device's DIP switch panel for exact switch combinations and their corresponding values.

Quick Sense QS-M9 Dimming Stages

Image: A visual representation of the four-stage dimming process controlled by the Quick Sense QS-M9 sensor: Stage 1 (No presence, light off), Stage 2 (Person enters, light at 100% brightness), Stage 3 (After short time, person leaves, light dims to 50%), and Stage 4 (Light dims further to 30%/20%/10% before turning off completely).

6. Maintenance

The Quick Sense QS-M9 Microwave Motion Sensor is designed for minimal maintenance. Follow these guidelines to ensure longevity and optimal performance:

  • Cleaning: Gently wipe the sensor's surface with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or excessive moisture, as this can damage the unit.
  • Inspection: Periodically check the sensor for any visible damage or loose connections. If any issues are found, consult a qualified electrician.
  • No User-Serviceable Parts: The sensor contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not attempt to open or repair the unit yourself, as this will void the warranty and may pose a safety risk.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Quick Sense QS-M9 sensor, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Light does not turn on when motion is detected.
  • No power to the sensor.
  • Daylight sensor setting is too high (e.g., set to 2000 LUX in a dark room).
  • Detection range is set too low or obstructed.
  • Faulty wiring.
  • Check power supply and circuit breaker.
  • Adjust Daylight Sensor (LUX) setting to a lower value.
  • Increase Detection Range setting; ensure no obstructions.
  • Verify wiring connections as per Section 4.2.
Light stays on constantly.
  • Continuous motion in the detection area.
  • Hold Time setting is too long.
  • Sensor malfunction.
  • Check for constant movement or heat sources.
  • Reduce Hold Time setting.
  • If problem persists, contact support.
Light turns on/off too frequently.
  • Detection range is too wide, picking up unwanted motion.
  • Hold Time setting is too short.
  • Reduce Detection Range setting.
  • Increase Hold Time setting.
Dimming function not working.
  • Incorrect 1-10V wiring.
  • Connected fixture is not dimmable or compatible with 1-10V.
  • Stand-by Mode & Dimming Level not configured.
  • Verify 1-10V wiring connections.
  • Ensure your lighting fixture and driver support 1-10V dimming.
  • Adjust Stand-by Mode & Dimming Level DIP switches.
