1. Introduction

The Mackie CR4.5BT Creative Reference Powered Studio Monitors with Bluetooth are designed to deliver professional-quality sound for various applications, including music production, desktop computing, gaming, and HiFi listening. These active speakers feature a tone shaping knob and a location switch to optimize sound for different environments. With multiple input options and Bluetooth connectivity, the CR4.5BT offers versatile audio solutions.

2. What's in the Box

Your Mackie CR4.5BT package includes the following components:

  • Speaker to Speaker Wire
  • 1/8" to RCA cable
  • 1/8" to 1/8" cable
  • Foam isolation pads

3. Setup

3.1 Speaker Placement

Proper speaker placement is crucial for optimal sound performance. Consider the following:

  • Place the speakers on a stable, flat surface.
  • Use the included foam isolation pads to minimize vibrations and improve acoustic accuracy.
  • Position the powered speaker (with controls) on either the left or right side, depending on your preference and cable routing.
  • Adjust the "Location Switch" on the rear panel to "Desktop" for close-range listening or "Bookshelf" for listening at a distance.

3.2 Connecting the Speakers

The CR4.5BT system consists of one powered speaker and one passive speaker. Connect them as follows:

  1. Connect the included speaker wire from the "Output to Passive Speaker" terminals on the powered speaker to the "Passive Speaker Input" terminals on the passive speaker. Ensure correct polarity (red to red, black to black).
  2. Connect the powered speaker to a power outlet using the provided power cable.

3.3 Audio Connections

The CR4.5BT offers multiple input options:

  • TRS Inputs: Use 1/4" TRS cables to connect to professional audio interfaces or mixers.
  • RCA Inputs: Use the included 1/8" to RCA cable to connect to devices with RCA outputs.
  • 3.5mm Input: Use the included 1/8" to 1/8" cable to connect to smartphones, tablets, or computers.
  • Bluetooth: For wireless audio streaming, pair your device via Bluetooth.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off

Locate the power switch on the rear panel of the powered speaker to turn the system on or off.

4.2 Volume Control

The main volume knob is located on the front panel of the powered speaker. Rotate clockwise to increase volume and counter-clockwise to decrease. There is also a dedicated headphone level control.

4.3 Tone Control

The "Tone" knob on the front panel allows you to adjust the sound profile. Turn the knob to shape the sound, from a transparent studio monitor response to a more enhanced bass and high-end sparkle for casual listening or gaming.

4.4 Bluetooth Pairing

To pair a Bluetooth device:

  1. Ensure the speakers are powered on.
  2. Press and hold the Bluetooth pairing button (usually indicated by a Bluetooth icon) on the front panel until the indicator light flashes.
  3. On your device, search for "CR4.5BT" in the Bluetooth settings and select it to pair.
  4. Once paired, the indicator light will become solid.

4.5 Headphone Output

A 3.5mm headphone output is available on the front panel for private listening. Plugging in headphones will mute the main speakers.

4.6 Speaker Position Switch

The "Powered Speaker Position Select" switch on the rear panel allows you to designate the powered speaker as either the Left (L) or Right (R) channel. This is useful for optimizing your setup based on where the powered speaker is placed relative to your listening position.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Mackie CR4.5BT monitors, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior surfaces. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
