1. Introduction

The WALABOT DIY 2 is an advanced visual stud finder and wall scanner designed to provide a clear view inside drywall. This innovative device connects wirelessly to your smartphone, displaying a visual map of objects behind your walls. It accurately detects wood and metal studs, plastic and metal pipes, and live and non-live electrical wires, making it an essential tool for home improvement projects, renovations, and professional use.

2. Safety Information

  • Always ensure the device is used in accordance with these instructions.
  • The Walabot DIY 2 is designed for scanning drywall and plywood only.
  • Do NOT use on lath and plaster, concrete, tiles, bricks, metal-backed walls, or stucco, as this may lead to inaccurate readings or device damage.
  • Before drilling or cutting into any wall, always confirm the findings with other methods and exercise extreme caution. Turn off power to electrical circuits if working near detected wires.
  • Keep the device away from water and extreme temperatures.
  • Do not attempt to open or repair the device yourself. Refer to qualified service personnel.

3. Package Contents

4. Setup

4.1. Charging the Device

Before first use, fully charge your Walabot DIY 2 using the provided charging cable. Connect the cable to the device and a standard USB power adapter (not included). The device features a Lithium Ion battery.

4.2. App Installation

The Walabot DIY 2 requires the Walabot DIY application to operate. Download and install the app on your smartphone:

  • For iOS devices: Search for "Walabot DIY" in the Apple App Store.
  • For Android devices: Search for "Walabot DIY" in the Google Play Store.

4.3. Device Connection

  1. Power on the Walabot DIY 2 device.
  2. On your smartphone, navigate to your Wi-Fi settings.
  3. Connect to the Wi-Fi network broadcast by the Walabot DIY 2. This is an internal Wi-Fi connection and does not require residential or office Wi-Fi.
  4. Launch the Walabot DIY application. The app should automatically detect and connect to the device.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Calibration

Calibration is crucial for accurate scanning. Before each scan or when moving to a different wall section, calibrate the device:

  1. Place the Walabot DIY 2 flat against the wall surface you intend to scan. Ensure there are no known objects directly behind the device during calibration.
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts within the Walabot DIY app to complete the calibration process. The device learns the surface characteristics during this step.

5.2. Scanning Modes

The Walabot DIY app offers different scanning modes to suit your needs:

  • Image Mode: Provides a visual representation of objects detected behind the wall, such as the center of wood or metal studs, pipes, and wires. This mode is ideal for general use.
  • Expert Mode: Displays raw signal data, offering more detailed information for advanced users to interpret.

5.3. Interpreting Results

The app interface will visually indicate the presence and type of objects. The Walabot DIY 2 can detect objects up to 4 inches (10 centimeters) deep inside walls.

  • Wood Studs: Typically shown as distinct vertical elements. The app will often highlight the center.
  • Metal Studs: Similar to wood studs but may have a different visual signature.
  • Pipes & Wires: Identified by their characteristic shapes and patterns. The device can distinguish between live and non-live wires.
  • Movement: The device can also detect movement within walls, which can be useful for identifying pests.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the Walabot DIY 2 in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the device frequently. Charge it regularly, especially if storing for extended periods.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Walabot DIY 2, refer to the following common solutions:

  • Device Not Connecting: Ensure the device is powered on and fully charged. Verify that your smartphone's Wi-Fi is connected to the Walabot's internal network. Restart both the device and the app.
  • Inaccurate Readings: Recalibrate the device on a clear section of the wall. Confirm that the wall material is compatible (drywall or plywood). Avoid scanning over areas with known obstructions or highly reflective surfaces.
  • App Crashes/Freezes: Close and restart the app. Ensure your smartphone's operating system is up to date.
  • No Detection: Ensure the device is pressed firmly against the wall and moved slowly. Verify the wall material is compatible.
