1. Introduction
The Sony MDR-M1 Studio Headphones are engineered for music creators and sound engineers, providing precise, well-balanced studio-quality sound and exceptional wearing comfort. These headphones support high-resolution audio and ultra-wideband playback, ranging from 5Hz to 80kHz, thanks to a specially designed driver unit. The closed acoustic design ensures high sound isolation, making them ideal for studio recording and on-the-go mixing. This manual provides essential information for the proper use, setup, and maintenance of your MDR-M1 headphones.

3. Setup
3.1 Attaching the Cable
- Select the desired cable length (1.2m or 2.5m) based on your usage environment.
- Align the plug of the chosen cable with the input jack located on the left earcup of the headphones.
- Insert the cable plug firmly until it clicks into place. The cable features a screw-type mechanism for a secure connection. Twist the outer ring of the cable connector clockwise to secure it to the headphone jack.
- If connecting to equipment with a 6.3mm stereo jack, screw the included 6.3mm plug adapter onto the 3.5mm plug of the cable.
- Connect the other end of the cable (or the adapter) to your audio source (e.g., audio interface, mixer, amplifier, computer, or mobile device).

3.2 Adjusting the Headband
Adjust the headband to ensure a comfortable and secure fit. The headband features clear L (Left) and R (Right) markings, with the left earcup also having a tactile blue indicator for easy identification in low light. Extend or retract the sliders on both sides of the headband until the earcups comfortably cover your ears and the headband rests gently on your head.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Wearing the Headphones
Place the headphones on your head with the "L" marked earcup on your left ear and the "R" marked earcup on your right ear. Adjust the headband as described in Section 3.2 for optimal comfort and sound isolation. The thick, low-resilience padding of the ear pads is designed to provide an airtight fit, crucial for accurate sound reproduction and noise isolation.
4.2 Audio Playback
Once connected to an audio source, begin playback from your device. Adjust the volume directly on your audio source. The MDR-M1 headphones are passive and do not have built-in volume controls. Ensure the volume is set to a comfortable listening level to prevent hearing damage.
4.3 Foldable Design for Transport
The MDR-M1 headphones feature a foldable design for easy transport and storage. Gently fold the earcups inwards towards the headband. This compact form factor helps protect the headphones when not in use or when traveling.

5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
- Wipe the headphones with a soft, dry cloth.
- For stubborn dirt, dampen the cloth with a mild detergent solution and wring it out thoroughly before wiping.
- Do not use alcohol, benzene, thinners, or other chemical cleaners, as they may damage the finish.
- Avoid getting moisture inside the headphone unit.
5.2 Replacing Ear Pads
The ear pads are designed to be easily replaceable, enhancing the longevity of your headphones. Over time, ear pads may wear out or become less hygienic. Refer to Sony's official website or authorized service centers for replacement ear pads and detailed instructions on how to replace them.
