Linshang LS221

Linshang LS221 Coating Thickness Gauge

Instruction Manual

1. Introduction

The Linshang LS221 Coating Thickness Gauge is a high-precision instrument designed for measuring the thickness of non-magnetic coatings on magnetic metal substrates (ferrous) and non-conductive coatings on non-magnetic metal substrates (non-ferrous). It combines both Hall effect and Eddy current principles to provide accurate and stable measurements across a wide range of applications. Its unique split-type design allows for measurements in narrow or hard-to-reach spaces.

2. Safety Information

  • Read this manual thoroughly before operating the device.
  • Do not expose the device to extreme temperatures, humidity, or corrosive environments.
  • Avoid dropping or subjecting the device to strong impacts.
  • Use only the specified battery type. Ensure correct polarity when installing batteries.
  • Keep the probe clean and free from debris to ensure accurate measurements.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the device, as this will void the warranty and may cause damage.

4. Setup

4.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect the device and accessories for any signs of damage. Retain the packaging for future storage or transport.

4.2 Battery Installation

The LS221 gauge requires one Lithium-ion battery, which is included. Locate the battery compartment on the main unit. Open the compartment cover, insert the battery according to the polarity markings, and close the cover securely.

4.3 Initial Power On

Press the power button (the single button on the main unit) to turn on the device. The display should illuminate, indicating the device is ready for use. If the display does not turn on, check the battery installation.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

  • To Power On: Press the single button on the main unit.
  • To Power Off: Press and hold the single button for a few seconds until the display turns off, or the device will automatically power off after a period of inactivity to conserve battery.

5.2 Taking a Measurement

The LS221 automatically detects the substrate type (ferrous or non-ferrous) and displays the coating thickness.

  1. Ensure the probe is clean and free of any foreign material.
  2. Place the probe gently and perpendicularly onto the coated surface to be measured.
  3. The device will automatically take a reading and display the coating thickness in micrometers (µm) or millimeters (mm). The substrate type (Fe or NFe) will also be indicated on the display.
  4. Lift the probe from the surface to prepare for the next measurement.

5.3 Unit and Language Selection

The LS221 allows for selection of measurement units (µm/mm) and display language. Refer to the on-screen prompts or the full user manual for detailed instructions on how to access and change these settings using the single button interface.

6. Calibration

For optimal accuracy, it is recommended to perform calibration periodically or when measuring on a new type of substrate. The LS221 comes with calibration foils and reference plates for this purpose.

  1. Ensure the gauge is powered on.
  2. Place the appropriate reference plate (ferrous or non-ferrous) on a stable, flat surface.
  3. Place a calibration foil of known thickness onto the reference plate.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions or refer to the detailed user manual for the specific calibration procedure, which typically involves taking a measurement on the bare reference plate and then on various calibration foils.
  5. The device may feature an authoritative certification for high accuracy and stable data, as shown in the image below.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

  • Wipe the main unit and probe with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or immerse the device in water.
  • Ensure the probe tip is free from dust, dirt, or coating residue before each use.

7.2 Storage

  • Store the device in its original packaging or a protective case when not in use.
  • Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Remove the battery if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.

8. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Device does not power on. Low or dead battery; incorrect battery installation. Replace battery; check battery polarity.
Inaccurate readings. Dirty probe tip; uncalibrated device; unstable surface. Clean probe tip; perform calibration; ensure stable measurement surface.
Display shows error message. Measurement out of range; internal error. Ensure coating thickness is within 0-5000µm; restart device. If error persists, contact support.
