Product Overview
The SmallRig Filter Kit 4412 is designed to enhance your photography and videography by providing versatile filter options and a convenient mounting system. This kit includes a unique adjustable clamp that fits lenses from 67mm to 82mm, along with CPL (Circular Polarizer) and Black Diffusion 1/4 filters. The magnetic modular design allows for quick and easy assembly and disassembly of filters.
Key features include:
- Versatile Filter Combinations: Stack CPL and Diffusion filters magnetically. CPL1 can be combined with CPL2/CPL3 to form a VND (Variable Neutral Density) filter, offering 2-5 stops of seamless adjustment without unwanted X-patterns.
- Adjustable Clamp (67mm-82mm): Ensures broad compatibility with popular mirrorless and cinema lenses.
- Magnetic Modular Design: Facilitates easy, three-step accessory assembly and disassembly, reducing equipment weight and enhancing comfort.
- Black Diffusion 1/4 Filter: Delivers a delicate, cinematic softness, ideal for portrait retouching and creating dreamy atmospheres.

Attaching the Adjustable Clamp
- Prepare Your Lens: Before attaching the filter kit, ensure you remove any existing UV filters from the front of your camera lens.
- Adjust the Clamp: The adjustable clamp is designed to fit lenses with diameters ranging from 67mm to 82mm. Gently open the clamp to accommodate your lens.
- Secure to Lens: Position the clamp onto the front of your lens. The clamp will securely grip the lens.
- Engage Top Locking Device: Securely fasten the top locking device (thumbscrew) to reinforce the attachment. Important: Do not operate the kit without the top knob securely locked.

Operating Instructions
This section details how to use the various filters included in your kit to achieve desired photographic and videographic effects.
Using CPL Filters and VND Combination
The CPL filters help reduce glare and reflections, enhancing color saturation and contrast. By combining CPL1 with CPL2 or CPL3, you can create a Variable Neutral Density (VND) filter.
- CPL Function: Attach a single CPL filter magnetically to the clamp. Rotate the filter to adjust the polarization effect, reducing reflections from non-metallic surfaces like water or glass, and deepening blue skies.
- VND Combination:
- VND 2-5 Stops: Stack CPL1 and CPL2 magnetically.
- VND 6-9 Stops: Stack CPL1 and CPL3 magnetically (if CPL3 is included in your specific kit).
- Adjusting VND: Once stacked, rotate the outer ring of the VND combination to seamlessly adjust the light reduction from 2 to 5 stops (or 6 to 9 stops), allowing for precise exposure control in bright conditions. This prevents the common "X-pattern" often seen with lower quality VND filters.

Note: "No vignetting" is generally achieved only at focal lengths greater than or equal to 16mm with full-frame cameras and lenses when using these filters.
Using the Black Diffusion 1/4 Filter
The Black Diffusion 1/4 filter is designed to create a soft, cinematic look by subtly diffusing light and reducing contrast, making it ideal for portraits and atmospheric shots.
- Attachment: Simply attach the Black Diffusion 1/4 filter magnetically to the adjustable clamp.
- Effect: This filter softens harsh light sources, reduces blemishes and wrinkles in portraits, and creates a gentle glow around highlights, contributing to a dreamy or vintage aesthetic.

Maintenance and Care
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your SmallRig Filter Kit, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning Filters: Use a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth specifically designed for optical surfaces. For stubborn smudges, use a small amount of lens cleaning solution applied to the cloth, not directly to the filter.
- Cleaning the Clamp: Wipe the clamp and other non-optical parts with a clean, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Storage: When not in use, store the filters in their protective case or with the provided lens caps and dust covers to prevent scratches and dust accumulation. Store the entire kit in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Handling: Always handle the filters by their edges to avoid leaving fingerprints on the optical surfaces.
- Avoid Impact: While durable, avoid dropping the kit or subjecting it to strong impacts, which could damage the filters or the clamp mechanism.
