Setup
Riflescope Setup
- Mounting: Securely mount the Venom 5-25x56 Riflescope to your firearm using appropriate 34mm rings. Ensure proper eye relief and reticle alignment. Refer to your ring manufacturer's instructions for torque specifications.
- Eyepiece Focus: Look through the eyepiece at a plain, light-colored wall or the sky. Rotate the fast focus eyepiece until the reticle appears sharp and clear. This adjustment is critical for accurate aiming.
- RevStop Zero System:
- After zeroing your riflescope at your desired distance, loosen the set screws on the elevation turret.
- Lift the turret cap and rotate it until the "0" mark aligns with the indicator line on the scope body.
- Insert the RevStop Zero Ring into the turret assembly, ensuring it seats properly.
- Tighten the set screws on the elevation turret. This sets your permanent zero stop, allowing for quick and consistent return to zero after making elevation adjustments.
Laser Rangefinder Setup
- Battery Installation: Unscrew the battery cap on the Crossfire HD 1400. Insert the included CR2 battery with the positive (+) terminal facing outwards. Replace the battery cap and tighten securely to maintain waterproof sealing.
- Lanyard Attachment: Attach the wrist lanyard to the designated loop on the rangefinder for secure handling.
Operating Instructions
Riflescope Operation
- Magnification Adjustment: Rotate the magnification ring to adjust the power from 5x to 25x. The included throw lever can be attached to the magnification ring for faster adjustments.
- Parallax Adjustment: The side parallax knob allows for fine-tuning the focus of the target image and eliminating parallax error. Rotate the knob until the target appears sharp and clear at the indicated distance.
- Elevation and Windage Adjustments:
- The elevation turret (top) and windage turret (right) are used to adjust the point of impact.
- Each click on the turret corresponds to a specific change in point of impact (e.g., 0.25 MOA per click).
- Refer to the markings on the turrets for precise adjustments.
- EBR-7C Reticle Use: The EBR-7C is a First Focal Plane (FFP) reticle, meaning its subtensions remain accurate at all magnification levels. Use the hash marks for holdovers and windage corrections based on your ballistic data.
Laser Rangefinder Operation
- Power On/Ranging: Press the MEASURE button (top button) to power on the unit and immediately begin ranging. The display will show the distance to the target.
- Mode Selection: Press the MENU button (side button) to cycle through different modes:
- Target Modes:
- Normal: Standard ranging mode.
- First: Displays the distance to the closest object in the laser path. Useful for ranging small targets in busy backgrounds.
- Last: Displays the distance to the furthest object in the laser path. Useful for ranging targets behind brush or other obstructions.
- Ranging Modes:
- HCD (Horizontal Component Distance): Provides angle-compensated distance, ideal for most hunting scenarios.
- LOS (Line of Sight): Provides the true line-of-sight distance.
- Target Modes:
- Display Brightness: Adjust the brightness of the red TOLED display by holding the MENU button and pressing the MEASURE button.
- Scan Feature: Hold down the MEASURE button to continuously scan and range multiple targets as you pan the rangefinder.
Maintenance
Proper care and maintenance will ensure the longevity and performance of your Vortex Optics products.
- Cleaning Lenses:
- Use the included lens cloth or a soft, lint-free cloth.
- For stubborn dirt or smudges, use a breath of air or a lens brush to remove loose debris, then apply a small amount of lens cleaning fluid to the cloth (not directly to the lens) and gently wipe.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- The Armortek coating provides excellent protection against scratches, oil, and dirt.
- General Cleaning: Wipe down the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid submerging the riflescope or rangefinder in water, although they are waterproof, excessive exposure is not recommended for cleaning.
- Storage: Store your optics in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure lens caps are in place to protect the lenses.
- Battery Replacement (Rangefinder): Replace the CR2 battery when the low battery indicator appears on the display.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Vortex Optics products, refer to the following common problems and solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Riflescope: Blurry image/reticle | Eyepiece not focused; Parallax not adjusted | Adjust fast focus eyepiece; Adjust side parallax knob for target distance. |
| Riflescope: Point of impact shift | Loose mounting rings; Turret not properly seated after adjustment | Check and tighten mounting rings to manufacturer specifications; Ensure turret set screws are tightened. |
| Rangefinder: No display/Unit won't turn on | Dead or incorrectly installed battery | Replace CR2 battery; Ensure battery is inserted with correct polarity (+ terminal out). |
| Rangefinder: Inaccurate readings | Obstruction in laser path; Ranging beyond maximum capability; Poor target reflectivity | Ensure clear line of sight; Range within specified limits; Try ranging a more reflective target or use scan mode. |
If problems persist, please contact Vortex Optics customer support for assistance.
