5. Installation Guide

5.1 Mounting Options

The camera offers two primary mounting methods to suit your vehicle and preference:

  1. License Plate Bracket: This bracket allows for hidden installation on the back of your license plate, requiring no drilling into the car body. Only the camera portion is exposed.
  2. Butterfly Bracket: This option provides flexibility for mounting in other locations. The viewing angle can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the screws on both sides of the camera.

5.2 Wiring Diagram

Follow the diagram below for proper electrical connections. Ensure all connections are secure and insulated.

Wiring Diagram for backup camera installation

Image: Detailed wiring diagram showing how to connect the backup camera to a head unit or a monitor, with or without a trigger wire. It illustrates connections for the video cable, power cable, and trigger wires (A and B) to the reversing lights and ground.

  • Connect the Video Cable (RCA yellow connector) from the camera to your car display or monitor's video input.
  • Connect the Power Cable (red and black wires) to a 12V power source. The red wire typically connects to the positive pole of the reversing lights, and the black wire to a ground point (iron part of the vehicle chassis).
  • If your head unit or monitor has a Trigger Wire (C), connect the camera's trigger wire (A) to it. This signals the display to switch to the camera view when reversing.
  • If your car display or navigator does not have a C trigger wire, there is no need to use an AB trigger wire.

5.3 Important Compatibility Notice

This reversing camera uses an RCA connector. It is suitable for screen systems with RCA input, such as car original screens, car navigation systems, or aftermarket monitors with RCA connectors. This camera is not suitable for dash cams, rearview mirror cameras, or GPS units that do not have an RCA video input. Please confirm your screen's connector type before installation.

Important Notice regarding RCA connector compatibility

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Video Signal Switching (AHD/CVBS)

The camera supports both AHD1080P and CVBS video signals. The default output is 1080P. If your display device does not support AHD signals, you can switch to CVBS mode:

  • To change to CVBS signals, cut the green wire loop on the camera's control wire.
  • After cutting, you may need to restart your vehicle or power supply for the change to take effect.
  • If you reconnect the cut green wire loop, the camera will revert to AHD1080P mode.

6.2 Parking Guideline Control

The camera features adjustable parking guidelines:

  • To turn the parking guidelines OFF, cut the white wire loop on the camera's control wire.
  • After cutting, you may need to restart your vehicle or power supply for the change to take effect.
  • If you reconnect the cut white wire loop, the parking guidelines will be turned ON again.

7. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your vampolo Backup Camera, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Regular Cleaning: Periodically clean the camera lens with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt, dust, or water spots that may obstruct the view. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Check Connections: Occasionally inspect all wiring connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion. Loose connections can lead to intermittent signal loss.
  • Bracket Security: Verify that the mounting bracket is firmly attached to your vehicle. Tighten any loose screws as needed.
  • Avoid High-Pressure Washing: While the camera is waterproof, direct high-pressure water jets at close range should be avoided, especially around the lens and cable entry points, to prevent potential damage to seals.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your backup camera, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Image/Black Screen:
    • Check all power connections to ensure the camera is receiving 12V power.
    • Verify the video cable (RCA) is securely connected to both the camera and the display unit.
    • Ensure your display unit is set to the correct video input channel.
    • If using AHD mode, confirm your display supports AHD1080P signals. If not, switch the camera to CVBS mode by cutting the green wire loop (refer to Section 6.1).
  • Flickering/Distorted Image:
    • Check for loose or damaged video cable connections.
    • Ensure the power supply is stable and free from interference.
    • Verify proper grounding of the camera's power cable.
  • Parking Guidelines Not Appearing/Always On:
    • Refer to Section 6.2 regarding the white wire loop for guideline control. Cut the white wire to turn guidelines OFF, or reconnect it to turn them ON.
    • Restart the vehicle or power supply after making changes to the wire loop.
  • Poor Night Vision:
    • Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from obstructions.
    • While the camera has starlight night vision, extremely dark conditions may still limit visibility. Ensure your vehicle's reverse lights are functioning correctly.
