4. Operating Modes
The Philips Solar Security Light offers three distinct lighting modes to suit various security and illumination needs. These modes are typically selected via a button on the unit.

Image 4.1: Visual representation of the three available lighting modes.
- Sensor Mode:
- Light remains off when no motion is detected.
- When motion is detected, the light illuminates at 100% brightness (1200lm) for 25 seconds.
- After 25 seconds, if no further motion is detected, the light turns off.
- Dim Mode:
- The light stays on continuously at 10% brightness (120lm) for 8-10 hours during the night.
- This mode provides constant ambient lighting.
- Dim + Sensor Mode:
- The light stays on continuously at 3% brightness (36lm) during the night.
- When motion is detected, the light brightens to 100% brightness (1200lm) for 25 seconds.
- After 25 seconds, if no further motion is detected, the light returns to 3% brightness.
To switch between modes, press the mode selection button located on the unit. The light will cycle through the modes with each press.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your solar security light.
- Clean the Solar Panel: Periodically wipe the solar panel with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust, dirt, and debris. A clean panel ensures maximum sunlight absorption and charging efficiency.
- Check Mounting: Occasionally inspect the mounting screws and bracket to ensure the light remains securely attached to the wall.
- Clear Obstructions: Ensure that no new obstructions (e.g., growing branches, new structures) block sunlight from reaching the solar panel or interfere with the motion sensor's field of view.
- Battery: The integrated battery is designed for long-term use. No user-serviceable parts are inside.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Philips Solar Security Light, refer to the following troubleshooting guide:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Light does not turn on at night. | Insufficient solar charge. | Ensure the solar panel receives 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Clean the solar panel. |
| Motion sensor not activated (in Sensor or Dim+Sensor mode). | Check if the light is in the correct operating mode. Test motion detection. | |
| Light stays on for a short period. | Low battery charge. | Allow the light to charge for a full day in direct sunlight. |
| Cold weather affecting battery performance. | Battery performance can be reduced in extremely cold temperatures. This is normal. | |
| Motion sensor is not detecting movement. | Obstruction in front of the sensor. | Clear any objects blocking the sensor's view. |
| Sensor angle or range needs adjustment. | Adjust the sensor head to cover the desired detection area. |
