2. Safety Information
Always prioritize safety when operating power tools. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury or property damage.
General Safety Precautions:
- Read and understand all instructions before operating the sander.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and a dust mask.
- Ensure the work area is clean, well-lit, and free from obstructions.
- Keep children and unauthorized personnel away from the operating machine.
- Do not wear loose clothing, gloves, or jewelry that could become entangled in moving parts.
- Secure the workpiece firmly before sanding. Never sand small pieces by hand.
- Maintain proper footing and balance at all times.
Electrical Safety:
- Ensure the sander is connected to a properly grounded electrical outlet with the correct voltage (115V/230V).
- Do not operate the sander in wet or damp conditions.
- Inspect the power cord for damage before each use. Do not use if damaged.
- Disconnect power before performing any adjustments, maintenance, or when changing sanding belts.
Sander-Specific Safety:
- Always use a dust collection system connected to the 4-inch dust port to minimize airborne dust.
- Keep hands and fingers away from the sanding belt and moving parts during operation.
- Ensure the sanding belt is properly tracked and tensioned before starting the machine.
- Do not apply excessive pressure to the workpiece, as this can cause kickback or damage to the machine.
3. Setup
Follow these steps to set up your oscillating edge sander.
3.1 Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully unpack all components and inspect for any shipping damage. Report any damage immediately to the carrier and supplier. Verify all parts listed in the packing list are present. Due to the weight of the main unit (approximately 280 lbs), assistance or lifting equipment is recommended for assembly.
3.2 Assembly
Assemble the base cabinet according to the provided diagrams. Attach the main sanding unit to the cabinet. Install the extension table, steel fence, and outer drum support table. Ensure all fasteners are securely tightened.
3.3 Electrical Connection
The sander is designed for 115V or 230V operation. Ensure the machine is configured for your power supply before connecting. A dedicated 20 Amp circuit is recommended for 115V operation. Consult a qualified electrician if you are unsure about electrical connections or need to convert the machine to 230V.
3.4 Dust Collection
Connect a suitable dust collection system to the 4-inch dust port on the sander. Efficient dust removal is crucial for safe operation and to maintain a clean workspace.

3.5 Belt Installation and Tracking
To install a new sanding belt, use the quick-release lever to relieve tension. Slide the new 6" x 89" belt onto the rollers. Re-engage the quick-release lever. Adjust the tracking control dial to center the belt on the rollers. The belt should run smoothly without rubbing against the machine frame.
4. Operating Instructions
Familiarize yourself with the controls and functions before beginning any sanding operation.
4.1 Starting and Stopping the Sander
To start the sander, press the green 'ON' button. To stop, press the red 'OFF' button. Always allow the sander to reach full speed before applying a workpiece.
4.2 Edge Sanding
For straight edge sanding, position the steel fence against the sanding belt. Adjust the fence to the desired angle. Feed the workpiece smoothly and consistently along the fence and against the sanding belt. The JET Black coated cast iron table provides a low-friction surface for smooth workpiece movement.

4.3 Contour Sanding
The adjustable outer drum support table allows for precise contour sanding. Position the workpiece against the exposed portion of the sanding belt on the outer drum. Adjust the table height as needed for optimal contact.

4.4 Tilting the Sanding Head
The sanding head can be tilted up to 90 degrees for sanding bevels and angles. Loosen the locking mechanism, adjust the head to the desired angle, and re-secure the lock. Use a protractor or angle gauge for precise angle settings.

Figure 4.4: The sanding belt can tilt up to 90 degrees for versatile applications.
4.5 Table Adjustments
The main table features 3-3/16" vertical travel, adjusted by a large handwheel. This allows for precise positioning relative to the sanding belt. The handwheel has a folding handle for convenience.

4.6 Oscillating Feature
The oscillating action of the sanding belt (1/4" stroke) helps to reduce heat buildup and extends the life of the sanding belt by distributing wear evenly across its surface. This also contributes to a smoother finish on the workpiece.

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your sander.
5.1 Cleaning
After each use, disconnect the power and clean the machine. Remove dust and debris from the sanding belt, table, and dust port. The JET Black coated table is rust-resistant and maintenance-free, requiring no waxing or polishing.

Figure 5.1: The JET Black performance coating offers low friction, rust resistance, and is maintenance-free.
5.2 Belt Replacement
Replace worn or damaged sanding belts promptly. Follow the belt installation instructions in Section 3.5. Ensure the new belt is the correct size (6" x 89") and grit for your application.
5.3 Inspection
Periodically inspect all moving parts, fasteners, and electrical connections. Check the condition of the sanding rollers and ensure they rotate freely. Tighten any loose fasteners. Store spare belts in the integrated cabinet storage.

6. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your sander.
Sander Does Not Start:
- Check if the power cord is securely plugged into a live outlet.
- Verify that the circuit breaker has not tripped.
- Ensure the ON/OFF switch is functioning correctly.
- Confirm the correct voltage setting (115V or 230V) matches your power supply.
Belt Tracking Issues:
- Adjust the tracking control dial until the belt runs centrally on the rollers.
- Ensure the quick-release lever is fully engaged.
- Check for debris on the rollers or inside the belt housing.
- Inspect the belt for damage or uneven wear.
Excessive Vibration:
- Ensure the sander is placed on a stable, level surface.
- Check that all assembly fasteners are tight.
- Inspect the sanding belt for damage or an improperly joined seam.
Poor Sanding Results:
- Replace worn or clogged sanding belts.
- Use the appropriate grit belt for the material and desired finish.
- Ensure consistent feeding pressure and speed.
Excessive Dust:
- Verify that the dust collection system is properly connected and operating efficiently.
- Check for blockages in the dust port or hose.
- Ensure the dust collector bag or canister is not full.
