5. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of your low voltage landscape transformer.

  1. Choose Location: Select an outdoor wall location that is protected from direct heavy rain and at least 12 inches (30 cm) above ground. Ensure it is within reach of a 125V AC power outlet.
  2. Mounting: Use the built-in mounting holes on the back of the transformer. Mark appropriate locations on the wall, spaced 2.25 inches apart. Install wall-mounted screws, leaving 0.3-0.4 inches of external length for hanging. Securely hang the transformer.
  3. Connect Low Voltage Wires: Strip approximately 0.5 inches of insulation from your low voltage landscape lighting wires. Insert the bare wires into the terminal clamping zone on the transformer's rear and tighten the screws to secure the connection. Ensure a firm connection to prevent voltage drop.
  4. Power Connection: Plug the transformer's 5-foot power cord into a standard 125V AC outdoor outlet.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your transformer, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Lights do not turn on.No power to transformer, loose wiring, overload, incorrect mode.Check power outlet, ensure secure wire connections, reduce load if overloaded, verify operating mode.
Lights stay on/off constantly.Photocell obstructed, incorrect mode selected.Clear any obstructions from the photocell, switch to Dusk to Dawn or Countdown Timer mode.
Lights flicker or are dim.Voltage drop due to long wiring or insufficient wire gauge, loose connections, overloaded circuit.Ensure proper wire gauge for length, check all connections, reduce total wattage.
Transformer repeatedly shuts off.Overload or short circuit.Disconnect some lights to reduce load, inspect wiring for short circuits. The built-in circuit breaker will reset once the issue is resolved.
