5. Setup

5.1 Physical Installation

The ER7412-M2 can be installed as a desktop unit or rack-mounted.

• Desktop Placement: Attach the included rubber feet to the bottom of the router and place it on a stable, flat surface. Ensure adequate ventilation around the device.
• Rackmount Installation: Use the provided rackmount kit to secure the router into a standard 19-inch equipment rack. Follow the instructions in the Installation Guide for proper mounting.

5.2 Connecting to Power

1. Connect one end of the provided power cord to the power inlet on the rear panel of the router.
2. Plug the other end of the power cord into a standard electrical outlet.
3. Ensure the power LED on the front panel illuminates, indicating the device is receiving power.

5.3 Connecting to Network

1. WAN Connection: Connect your modem or internet service provider's device to one of the WAN/LAN ports (e.g., Port 1 or 2 for 2.5G, or any other RJ45/SFP port configured as WAN).
2. LAN Connection: Connect your local network devices (computers, switches, access points) to the remaining LAN ports.
3. Console Connection: For advanced configuration, connect a computer to the console port using the RJ45 console cord.

6. Operating the Router

6.1 Basic Network Configuration

6.2 VPN Setup

• Ensure your devices are connected to the appropriate speed ports (e.g., 2.5G devices to 2.5G ports).
• Check for high network traffic or bandwidth-intensive applications.
• Verify that your ISP is providing the expected speeds.
• Consider disabling or optimizing certain security features like IPS/IDS if they are impacting performance, especially on lower-tier internet connections.

8.3 Unable to Access Web Management Interface

• Ensure your computer is connected to a LAN port of the router.
• Verify your computer's IP settings are set to obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP).
• Try accessing the interface using the default IP address (192.168.0.1).
• Clear your browser's cache or try a different browser.

8.4 Resetting the Device

If issues persist, you may need to reset the router to factory default settings. Locate the Reset button on the front panel. With the router powered on, press and hold the Reset button for approximately 5-10 seconds until the system LED blinks rapidly. Release the button, and the router will restart with default settings. Warning: This will erase all your custom configurations.
