HANMATEK SF3 6-in-1 Multi-Function Wall Scanner and Stud Finder
Model: SF3
Introduction
The HANMATEK SF3 is a versatile 6-in-1 wall scanner designed to accurately detect various hidden objects behind walls, floors, and ceilings. This device helps users locate wood studs, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and live AC wires, enhancing safety and precision for DIY projects and professional tasks.
Safety Information
Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating the device. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.
- Always assume live AC wires are present in the wall. Exercise extreme caution when drilling, cutting, or opening walls, floors, or ceilings.
- Do not rely solely on the detector to locate items behind surfaces. Use other information sources such as blueprints, visible wiring, and plumbing access points.
- Keep the device dry and clean. Avoid exposure to moisture or extreme temperatures.
- Do not attempt to open or modify the device. There are no user-serviceable parts inside.
- Dispose of batteries properly according to local regulations.

- Digital LCD Display & Audio Alarm: Provides clear visual and audible indications of detected objects.
- Integrated Flashlight: Aids in scanning in dimly lit areas.
Setup
1. Battery Installation
The HANMATEK SF3 requires 3x 1.5V AAA alkaline batteries. Open the battery cover on the back of the device and insert the batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Close the battery cover securely.
2. Initial Calibration
Before each use, or if the device is accidentally shaken or lifted during scanning, recalibration is necessary for accurate readings.
- Place the device flat against the wall where you intend to scan, ensuring no objects are directly beneath the sensor area.
- Press and hold the On/Off button to power on the device.
- The device will automatically calibrate. Wait for 1-3 seconds until the calibration is complete.

Operating Modes
The SF3 offers multiple detection modes for various materials. Select the appropriate mode using the mode buttons on the device.
1. Stud Scan Mode
This mode is used to detect the edges and center of wood studs behind drywall. It has two sub-modes:
- Exact Mode: Detects studs up to 20 mm (0.79 inches) deep. Recommended for initial scans.
- Deep Mode: Detects studs up to 38 mm (1.50 inches) deep. Use if no studs are found in Exact Mode. To switch, long press the stud detection button.

Figure 3: Stud Mode Detection
The device indicates the edge and center of a stud. Always start scanning in Exact Mode to minimize false detections.
2. Metal Scan Mode
This mode detects ferrous metals (like rebar) and non-ferrous metals (like copper pipes) behind surfaces.
- Ferrous Metal: Detects up to 38 mm (1.50 inches) deep.
- Non-ferrous Metal: Detects up to 20 mm (0.79 inches) deep.

Figure 4: Metal Mode Detection
The device distinguishes between ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Always start scanning in Precision mode first.
3. AC Wire Scan Mode
This mode is specifically for detecting live, unshielded AC wires up to 38 mm (1.50 inches) deep. For safety, the device will always detect and display live AC wires in all modes.

Figure 5: AC Wire Detection
When unshielded live wires are detected, a wire warning icon will flash on the screen, and an audible alert will sound.
General Scanning Procedure:
- Step 1: Power On and Select Mode. Press the power button to turn on the tool. Press the mode button to switch to the desired detection mode (Stud, Metal, or AC Wire).
- Step 2: Scan Slowly. Place the scanner flat against the wall and move it slowly along the surface. Do not lift or apply excessive pressure to the device. If the device is accidentally shaken or lifted, recalibrate it.

Figure 6: Slow and Steady Scan
Move the scanner slowly and consistently across the surface for accurate detection.
- Step 3: Interpret Display and Audio. The progress bar on the screen will change based on the distance to the detected object. When the signal is strong (full bars), the indicator light will flash, and a clicking sound will be heard, indicating the center of the object has been found.

Figure 7: Interpreting the Display
The LCD shows signal strength and object location. Audio alerts provide additional feedback.
