Introduction

Thank you for choosing the ARCCAPTAIN True Color Auto Darkening Welding Helmet. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your welding helmet. Please read this manual thoroughly before use and retain it for future reference.

Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when welding. This helmet is designed to protect your eyes and face from harmful radiation, sparks, and spatter during welding and grinding operations. However, proper safety practices must always be followed.

  • Ensure the helmet is properly adjusted and fits securely before each use.
  • Do not use the helmet if any part is damaged or appears to be malfunctioning.
  • This helmet is not suitable for laser welding or oxyacetylene welding/cutting applications.
  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in addition to the welding helmet, including safety glasses, gloves, and protective clothing.
  • Avoid direct exposure to welding arc rays without proper protection.
  • Keep the helmet clean and free from debris to ensure optimal performance and visibility.

Setup

1. Headgear Adjustment

The helmet's headgear is fully adjustable to ensure a comfortable and secure fit for various head sizes and shapes. Proper adjustment is crucial for stability and optimal viewing.

  • Head Circumference: Use the knob at the back of the headgear to adjust the circumference until it fits snugly without being too tight.
  • Top Strap Adjustment: Adjust the top strap to position the helmet correctly on your head, ensuring the viewing area is aligned with your eyes.
  • Distance Adjustment (Eye-to-Lens): Adjust the distance between your eyes and the lens for optimal clarity and field of view.
  • Angle Adjustment: Adjust the tilt angle of the helmet to suit your working position.

2. Battery Installation/Check

The helmet comes with a lithium battery (CR2450) pre-installed. The solar panel assists in powering the ADF and extends battery life. Before first use, ensure the battery is properly seated.

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the ADF unit.
  2. Verify the battery is installed with the correct polarity.
  3. Press the "TEST" button on the ADF to confirm it darkens. If it does not darken or the "LOW BATTERY" indicator lights up, replace the battery.

Operating Instructions

The ARCCAPTAIN welding helmet offers various adjustments to optimize your welding experience for different applications.

1. True Color View Technology

This helmet features 1/1/1/1 optical clarity and True Color View technology, providing a clearer and more realistic perception of colors, which enhances visibility of the weld puddle and surrounding area.

2. Shade Adjustment

The shade level can be adjusted from DIN 4 (Grind Mode) to DIN 9-13 (Weld Mode) using the external knob. Select the appropriate shade based on your welding process and amperage.

  • Grind Mode (DIN 4): For grinding operations, providing clear visibility while protecting against sparks and debris.
  • Weld Mode (DIN 9-13): For various welding processes (TIG, MIG, ARC), adjust according to the intensity of the arc.

3. Sensitivity Adjustment

Adjust the sensitivity to ensure the ADF reacts appropriately to the welding arc. In environments with low ambient light or when welding at low amperages, increase sensitivity. In bright environments or with high-frequency interference, decrease sensitivity.

4. Delay Control

The delay control sets the time it takes for the lens to return from the dark state to the light state after the arc extinguishes. This prevents eye fatigue from residual arc glow. Adjustable from 0.1 to 0.8 seconds.

  • Short Delay: Suitable for tack welding or short welds.
  • Long Delay: Recommended for high amperage welding or when working with hot materials to protect against afterglow.

5. Application Modes

This helmet is versatile and suitable for a wide range of applications:

  • STICK Welding (SMAW)
  • MIG Welding (GMAW)
  • TIG Welding (GTAW)
  • Grinding

Maintenance

1. Cleaning

  • Clean the helmet shell with a mild soap and water solution. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Clean the outer and inner protective lenses regularly with a soft, clean cloth and a non-abrasive lens cleaner. Do not use solvents.
  • Ensure the solar panel is clean and unobstructed for optimal charging.

2. Battery Replacement

When the "LOW BATTERY" indicator illuminates or the ADF fails to darken, replace the CR2450 lithium battery.

  1. Carefully remove the ADF unit from the helmet.
  2. Locate the battery compartment on the ADF.
  3. Remove the old battery and dispose of it properly.
  4. Insert a new CR2450 battery, ensuring correct polarity (+ side up).
  5. Reinstall the ADF unit into the helmet.
  6. Press the "TEST" button to verify proper function.

3. Storage

Store the helmet in a dry, clean environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Protect the lenses from scratches and impact.
